1. Hypothyroidism due to Qi deficiency and blood deficiency: tonify Qi and nourish blood, replenish spleen and warm kidney. Add flavor to Bazhen Soup. Angelica 9 grams, Chuanxiong 9 grams, white peony 12 grams, Rehmannia glutinosa 12 grams, Codonopsis pilosula 15 grams, Atractylodes macrocephala 9 grams, Poria 15 grams, roasted licorice 3 grams, Astragalus 30 grams, cinnamon 3 grams (added later), 3 jujubes. Add or subtract according to symptoms. For patients with severe anemia, add 6 grams of ginseng, 9 grams of donkey-hide gelatin, and 15 grams of Polygonum multiflorum to strengthen the invigoration of qi and blood. For those with abdominal distension and constipation, add 9 grams of betel nut and 9 grams of Citrus aurantium to regulate qi and promote bowel movements. For those with edema, add 15 grams of Poria cocos and 15 grams of Alisma orientalis to promote diuresis and reduce swelling.

2. Hypothyroidism due to deficiency of spleen and kidney yang: warming yang and promoting diuresis, nourishing the spleen and kidneys. Zhenwu Decoction, Fangji Huangqi Decoction and Jinkui Shenqi Pills are modified. 9 grams of cooked aconite, 3 grams of dried ginger, 9 grams of white atractylodes, 12 grams of poria, 30 grams of astragalus, 9 grams of stephania, 15 grams of oriental rhizome, 9 grams of dried tangerine peel, 12 grams of cooked rehmannia, 12 grams of yam, 9 grams of cornus, 3 grams of cinnamon (to be added later). Add or subtract according to symptoms. Other diuretic and anti-edema ingredients include Poria, Plantago, Coix seed, wax gourd peel, old gourd, etc. For those with chest tightness, palpitations and shortness of breath, add 6g to 15g of ginseng, 9g of cinnamon twig, 30g of motherwort, 15g of zelan, etc. to replenish heart qi, warm the chest yang, and promote blood circulation and diuresis. For those with sore waist and knees, add 9 grams of Eucommia ulmoides, 9 grams of Chuanduan, 15 grams of Viscum album, 9 grams of Polygonum multiflorum, etc. to nourish the kidneys and strengthen the waist. For those with apathetic expression and intellectual impairment, add 9 grams of calamus and 4.5 grams of polygala to eliminate phlegm and wake up the mind. For those who are unconscious, add 9 grams of peach kernel and 5 grams of safflower to promote blood circulation and clear the brain.

3. External treatment: Mix appropriate amount of cinnamon and Evodia rutaecarpa powder with ginger juice to make a paste, apply it to the Shenque point, once every other day. Suitable for patients with hypothyroidism and yang deficiency edema.

4. Acupuncture therapy: Select acupoints such as Renying, Shenshu, Pishu, Taixi, Zusanli and Guanyuan. For those with severe kidney yang deficiency, add Mingmen, Qihai and other acupoints. For edema, add Yinlingquan and Sanyinjiao. For patients with intellectual impairment and hypothyroidism, add Baihui and Xinshu. Acupuncture uses warming and tonifying techniques, or moxibustion with moxa sticks is added at the same time, or moxibustion with aconite cakes is applied to the acupoints on the back and abdomen.
