How to recover after nasal polyp surgery

How to recover after nasal polyp surgery

If nasal polyps can be discovered in time and surgical treatment is taken in time, then good recovery effects can be achieved. Generally speaking, cancer will not occur. Therefore, for some patients, if nasal polyps have been diagnosed, then attention should be paid to active treatment. It is better to have surgery as soon as possible. After the operation, attention should also be paid to proper care, eating more high-protein, vitamin-rich foods to enhance the body's immunity and resistance.

1. If nasal polyps are completely removed in the early stages, cancer generally will not occur. However, some patients with chronic nasal polyps do not pay attention to postoperative follow-up or improper care causes recurrence of nasal polyps. Repeated resection surgeries can cause serious irritation to nasal tissue and physiological functions, interacting with chronic inflammation and easily leading to cancer.

2. The increase in the size of polyps will hinder sinus ventilation and drainage, resulting in poor drainage of sinus secretions and aggravating sinusitis. This will cause and effect and form a vicious cycle. Nasal polyps can cause many complications, such as pharyngitis, otitis media, and damage to the functions of organs such as the heart and lungs. A few giant polyps can cause invasive complications. Those polyps that grow faster and are larger in size will squeeze and destroy the sinus walls or the roof of the nasal cavity, and then invade the orbits, sphenoid sinuses, and middle cranial fossa.

3. If the patient has been diagnosed with nasal polyps, surgery should be performed as soon as possible, and rhinitis, sinusitis and other diseases should be actively treated to reduce the number of recurrences. Patients who often have nosebleeds and are older are more likely to develop cancer. They should be vigilant and insist on going to the hospital for regular check-ups. In addition, nasal polyps are somewhat hereditary. People with a family history of nasal polyps should be checked as early as possible to avoid cancer.

4. Postoperative care for patients with nasal polyps : After surgery, patients should be given high-calorie, high-protein, vitamin-rich liquid or semi-liquid food to increase the body's resistance and prevent infection. The food should be warm or cool, avoiding overheating or hard food that may damage the mucous membrane and cause bleeding in the wound. Maintaining a good body position plays a key role in postoperative recovery. For example, adopting a semi-recumbent position can reduce congestion and bleeding in the head, facilitate the spitting out of secretions, and reduce local swelling. Appropriate activities two days after surgery are particularly important for relieving pain and enhancing the body's resistance.
