Is it good to have a crescent on the nail

It is a common phenomenon to have a half-moon on the nail, which is also called a half-moon mark. Many people believe that half-moon marks have an impact on human health. If there are many half-moon marks, then the person is healthier. Otherwise, the person’s physique is not so good. So, is it really so? How do traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine view the half-moon marks? More on this below!

1. View of the Half-Moon Mark from the Perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine

According to Chinese medicine: Nails are the beauty of tendons and the residue of blood. If qi is not consumed, it returns to the liver to become blood. If blood is not consumed, it returns to the kidney to become essence. If essence is not consumed, it returns to the bones to become marrow.

This is where the essence comes from. The essence is also where the vitality is. The half-moon mark is very important because it displays the condition of essence, blood and qi.

2. The role of vitality

1. Nourish all internal organs of the body.

2. Promote the normal operation of Qi and blood in the internal organs.

3. Resist external evil (immune function).

4. Longevity and anti-aging substances.

5. Genetic material.

There is a saying in Traditional Chinese Medicine: A person with sufficient essence is strong, a person with weak essence is sick, a person with little essence is old, and a person with exhausted essence is dead.

This shows the importance of essence and vitality. In daily life, timely restoration of energy and maintenance of the body are beneficial to physical health. When energy is low, the first important supplement is protein.

Traditional Chinese medicine says: "If the essence and blood are insufficient, replenish them with flavor."

This means supplementing protein. It is better to have neutral high-quality protein, such as milk, eggs, beans, fish, black foods (black foods nourish the kidneys), seed foods, embryonic foods, etc. After persisting for a month, you can see half-moon marks appearing on your nails, indicating that your energy has been restored to a certain extent.

3. Viewing the Half-Moon Marks from a Western Medical Perspective

From the perspective of Western medicine, the half-moon mark is actually the part of the nail bed that grows to the base of the nail. It is the "bed" where the nails continue to grow, supplies the nutrients needed for nail growth, and is a connective tissue. The nail bed is rich in blood vessels and nerve endings. When the human body's blood circulation is normal and the nail tips are adequately supplied with blood, the nails grow faster and new nails grow continuously.

The newly born nail has not yet aged, so its color is lighter. It differentiates faster in the middle of the nail bed, and the growth rate on both sides decreases, forming a crescent-shaped shadow pattern. When the growth is fast, the crescent arc is larger, and when the metabolism is low, the crescent arc is smaller or even not obvious. When the human body develops certain cardiovascular diseases, the blood supply to the fingertips is damaged, and the growth rate of the nail is lower than the aging rate, the half-moon marks will appear smaller or disappear. From this it can be seen that when people observe the half-moon marks on their nails, they can roughly understand their current health status through the appearance of the half-moon marks.
