What are the dangers of wisdom tooth extraction?

The scientific name of wisdom tooth is the third molar, also called wisdom tooth or establishment tooth. Wisdom tooth is closer to the throat. If all wisdom teeth grow out, there will be four in total, that is, two wisdom teeth in the upper and lower jaws. When people are 16 years old or later, wisdom teeth usually grow out, indicating that the person's mind is mature enough, hence the name. Wisdom teeth may sometimes affect a person's chewing or facial beauty, so they may need to be removed. However, when removing wisdom teeth, you must pay attention to conditioning and go to a regular dental clinic for government treatment to avoid physical harm caused by wisdom teeth removal.

Common complications of wisdom tooth extraction include:

1. Local numbness. Because the wisdom tooth is located abnormally close to the nerve canal, it is easy to compress the nerve during the operation, causing local numbness of the lower lip after the operation. If the numbness is still there 2 hours after the operation, oral nerve nutrition drugs such as vitamin B1 and vitamin B12 are required. If the numbness is severe, hormones can be given in the early stage to reduce edema. Generally, it can return to normal half a month to three months after tooth extraction. Very few people will not recover well.

2. Facial swelling and limited mouth opening are mostly caused by postoperative inflammation. You can apply cold compresses locally after tooth extraction to reduce swelling, and take oral antibiotics for 3-5 days depending on the situation.

3. Loosening of adjacent teeth is mostly caused by local bone loss after bone removal during surgery and wisdom tooth extraction. Minimally invasive operations are now mostly used, and unless in special circumstances, it rarely causes loosening of adjacent teeth.

4. Postoperative bleeding is generally related to the untreated wound surface of tooth extraction. It is best to stay in the hospital for 40 minutes after tooth extraction and leave the hospital after spitting out the hemostatic gauze or cotton roll. If you have a blood system disease, you must inform the doctor when you see a doctor. If you take oral anticoagulants such as aspirin, you must inform them in advance;

Should wisdom teeth be removed?

(1) First of all, we need to clarify a misunderstanding: not all wisdom teeth need to be removed

1. The upper and lower wisdom teeth bite in an orderly manner.

2. The position is relatively correct, and it is expected to erupt normally or has already erupted normally, with no food impaction.

3. There is no history of inflammation or pain in the soft tissue around the wisdom teeth, and there is no caries in the wisdom teeth.

( ii) Wisdom teeth that must be extracted

1. Cause adjacent tooth lesions

If there is insufficient space for growth, the wisdom teeth will push against the adjacent teeth and continue to grow, which may result in the loss of both teeth.

2. When wisdom teeth erupt, insufficient space causes pericoronal inflammation

If there is insufficient space for wisdom teeth to grow, symptoms such as severe gum swelling and tooth pain may occur during the growth process.

3. No teeth

If there is no opposing wisdom tooth opposite the wisdom tooth, the wisdom tooth may over-erupt and elongate, thus affecting the bite. In this case, the wisdom tooth should be extracted.

4. Impacted wisdom teeth

A relatively common problem, this type of wisdom tooth is usually buried in the alveolar bone. If inflammation occurs frequently or if a lesion is diagnosed, it must be extracted.

5. Wisdom tooth decay

If the wisdom tooth has deep cavities, especially if it requires root canal treatment, it is recommended to remove it.
