What to do if facial bones protrude?

Oriental people have more prominent cheekbones, which affects the overall face shape and makes it look less beautiful. Protruding bones on the face can be corrected through cosmetic surgery, where bone cutting or grinding can make your face more perfect. However, since it is a surgery, there are risks involved, so you must choose a regular hospital for the surgery. Alternatively, you can achieve improvement through massage, but this method is slow to take effect and wastes a lot of time, so few people choose this method. In addition to completely solving this problem, you can also modify your face shape through makeup and hairstyle.

1. Bone cutting

But there are certain risks. It is also relatively expensive, and you need to find an experienced physician to reduce the risk. The cost of bone flattening is also quite high.

2. Use zygomatic bone massage to eliminate high zygomatic bones

This method is generally not adopted because it takes too long, has little effect, and will cause zygomatic muscle damage.

3. You can hide it with your hairstyle, but it won’t be very effective if you try to cover up your prominent cheeks with your hair.

4. Makeup can also be used to modify high cheekbones. You can use a slightly brighter powder under the cheekbones. The eyebrows can be drawn thin and upward to show a sharp expression.

Location

The zygomatic arches are located on both sides of the craniofacial bones. They are arched outwards with sharp upper edges that are easy to palpate. The zygomatic bone has four processes: the frontosphenoidal process, the maxillary process, the temporal process and the orbital process. It affects facial beauty primarily through its relationship with the nose, temples, and cheeks.

Function

The zygomatic bone and zygomatic arch are important bony supports in the middle part of the face and are an important component of the human facial contour. It has three main physiological functions. The first is protection. These two structures are located at the most protruding parts on both sides of the face. When external force hits the face from the side, they play a protective role on the maxillary sinus and temporalis muscle, and then on the outer wall of the skull. The second function is to form the contours on both sides of the mid-face. The difference in its size and shape greatly affects the contour and appearance of the face. Therefore, changing its shape and convexity can significantly change the appearance of the face. The third function is to separate the deep temporalis muscle from the superficial skin. When we eat, we can notice the movement of the temporal parts on both sides, but we will not notice the movement of the skin on the zygomatic arches. In fact, the temporalis muscle runs under the zygomatic arches. When the zygomatic arch is missing due to various reasons, you will notice that the skin in front of the external auditory canal moves when eating, driven by the temporalis muscle deep inside.

Zygomatic bone type

The width of the mid-face 1/3 is mainly determined by the height of the zygomatic bone and zygomatic arch. The height of the cheekbones is related to the proportions of other parts of the face. Such as the width of the mandible, the width of the temporal bone in the temporal region and the degree of development of the temporalis muscle. In addition, whether the cheekbones are obviously prominent is also related to the amount of subcutaneous fat. For example, if there is too little subcutaneous fat and the person is obviously thin, the cheekbones and zygomatic arches may appear relatively higher. Therefore, the height of the zygomatic bone and zygomatic arch is a relative concept. Since we can visually distinguish the size of the zygomatic bone and zygomatic arch in daily life, high zygomatic bones can be divided into "true" high zygomatic bones and "false" high zygomatic bones. Medical imaging technology can be used clinically to actually measure the height of the zygomatic bone and zygomatic arch and make a judgment on the degree of high zygomatic bone.
