How should skin atrophy be treated?

How should skin atrophy be treated?

Skin atrophy is often related to impaired skin nutrient absorption, such as long-term psychological stress leading to endocrine disorders. In addition, chronic infections, congenital abnormalities, neurotrophic dysfunction, etc. may all induce skin atrophy. At this time, Chinese medicine prescriptions can be used for treatment. Not only are there few side effects, but the treatment effect is also very good.

(1) Blood-nourishing and skin-moisturizing drink:

The prescription uses 10g each of raw rehmannia, cooked rehmannia, angelica, and astragalus, 6g each of asparagus, ophiopogon, peach kernel, safflower, and scutellaria, 10g of pollen, and 3g of cimicifuga. Take it in decoction, 1 dose per day. Do not eat fishy, meaty, spicy or other irritating foods during the medication period.

(2) Moisturizing pills:

The recipe uses 30g each of peach kernel, safflower, angelica dahurica, saposhnikovia divaricata, and Stephania tetrandra, 45g each of red peony root, chuanxiong, and whole angelica, and 60g each of notopterygium wilfordii, radix rehmanniae, and cortex phellodendri. Grind them into powder and make into pills with water. Dosage: 3-6g each time, 2 times/d; with warm water. Pregnant women should avoid taking this medicine.

(3) Atractylodes macrocephala ointment:

Add 50 kg of clean water to 5 kg of Atractylodes macrocephala and boil it into juice for 6-7 hours. Filter and concentrate it into 1.5 kg of paste. Then add 11.5 kg of honey and mix well for later use. Dosage: 6-10g each time, twice a day, taken with boiled water. This prescription strengthens the spleen and eliminates dampness, and should be avoided with cold food.

(4) Atractylodes lancea paste:

5kg of Atractylodes lancea and 50kg of clean water. The preparation and administration methods are the same as those of Atractylodes macrocephala paste. This prescription strengthens the spleen, dries dampness, soothes the stomach and harmonizes the middle.

(5) Zizao Yangrong Decoction:

The prescription uses 30g of raw rehmannia, 20g of cooked rehmannia, 10g each of angelica, red peony root, scutellaria, gentiana macrophylla, and saposhnikovia divaricata, and 6g of licorice. Take one dose daily, decocted in water. This prescription nourishes dryness, nourishes blood and dispels wind.

Skin atrophy is a phenomenon in which all or part of the skin tissue is reduced or shrunk and its function is impaired due to skin nutritional disorders. It is different from congenital skin dysplasia (defect) and is a change after the skin has developed completely.

Skin atrophy is best treated causally, but due to insufficient understanding of the causes of this type of disease, relevant information shows that there is still no unified treatment method. The principle of medication is to combine etiological treatment with topical moisturizing and protective drugs. Moisturizing and protective drugs can be applied topically. Vitamin A and vitamin E can be taken for certain atrophic skins. Chloroquine can be used for those who are photosensitive. Physical therapy and acupuncture can be used for those with neurological disorders. Endocrine hormone correction can be given to those with endocrine disorders. Topical retinoic acid and vitamin D3 analogues may also be effective in improving skin atrophy. Traditional Chinese medicine divides this type of disease into two clinical types: blood deficiency and dry skin and spleen deficiency and blood stasis.
