Eight habits that damage your teeth, beware!

Teeth are one of the hardest parts of the human body, but they are also one of the most vulnerable parts. We cannot chew food without teeth, and the sugar content in modern people's food is very high, which is one of the reasons why people's teeth are easily damaged. If you do not pay attention to oral hygiene and do not take care of your teeth, your teeth are very likely to be damaged.

Every living species has teeth, which are also a physiological organ in vertebrates that help humans chew food. Although teeth are very hard organs, they are also easily damaged. The following bad habits are damaging your dental health.

Eight habits that damage your dental health

1. Rinse your mouth vigorously when brushing your teeth

Foreign dental experts say that the acids and sugars produced when eating can temporarily weaken the protective effect of tooth enamel. Brushing your teeth right after a meal can damage tooth enamel more easily. It is recommended to wait at least half an hour after a meal before brushing your teeth. At the same time, avoid rinsing your mouth vigorously to avoid weakening the protective effect of fluoride toothpaste on your teeth.

2. Chewing on one side

It can rotate the dental arch toward the chewing side and tilt the mandible toward the chewing side, resulting in left-right asymmetry of the face.

3. Biting habits

It refers to the habit of chewing objects. If the teeth are used in one place for a long time, a small opening and closing of the teeth will form at the biting point.

4. Sleeping habits

Frequent use of hands or fists to support one side of the face or using hands to support the face while sleeping can lead to maxillofacial development abnormalities and facial asymmetry.

5. Finger sucking habit

The incidence rate is high. It is a normal nerve reflex in infancy and can be regarded as a normal physiological activity before 2-3 years old. It should gradually disappear at 4-6 years old. If it continues to appear, it can be regarded as a bad habit. When sucking the finger, the thumb is placed on the upper and lower front teeth that are erupting, which will prevent the front teeth from erupting normally, resulting in a circular gap between the upper and lower front teeth when the mouth is closed, which is called open bite. Due to the long-term sucking action, the air pressure in the mouth decreases, and the pressure of the cheek muscles will make the dental arch narrower, the upper front teeth protrude forward, and the lips open to show the teeth. The thumb pressing on the hard palate can also cause it to sink, hindering the downward development of the nasal cavity.

6. The habit of sticking out tongue or licking teeth

This habit often occurs in children. During the period of tooth replacement, children often like to lick loose deciduous teeth, newly erupted permanent teeth or residual roots with the tip of their tongue, which will form the habit of sticking out the tongue or licking teeth. Because the tip of the tongue pushes forward against the front teeth, over time, the teeth are forced to protrude forward and outward, causing open lips and exposed teeth. Sometimes a prismatic gap may form between the upper and lower front teeth, known as a small open bite.

7. Random teeth picking habits

Children's teeth are arranged very closely, so it is not easy for food to get stuck between their teeth when they eat. If you develop the habit of picking your teeth, the gaps between your teeth will gradually widen, and food will easily get stuck in between your teeth. The food residue will ferment and cause gum inflammation. Adults should not pick their teeth casually. If the toothpick used is unhygienic, the gum mucosa will be broken and bacteria will enter the mouth, causing bleeding gums. ,

8. Swim with your mouth open

Chlorine in swimming pools can cause tooth erosion, loss of tooth surface hard tissue, discoloration and sensitivity. After swimming, it is best to brush your teeth or rinse your mouth.
