What are the methods to prevent febrile convulsions in children

When a child has a fever, many parents think that it is caused by the child catching a cold, and they are even more worried that the child's condition will become serious, so parents will dress the child in thick clothes, and some parents will even "sweat" the child, thinking that this will help the child reduce the fever as soon as possible. However, this is wrong. In severe cases, it may cause febrile convulsions in children. Now let's talk about the preventive measures for febrile convulsions in children.

1. Prevent high fever factors:

Cold is the most common cause of fever in babies, so they need to strengthen nutrition and take part in regular outdoor activities to strengthen their physical fitness and improve their resistance. In addition, they should avoid catching cold and avoid crowded areas. If they have cold symptoms, they should seek medical treatment in time.

2. Deal with high fever promptly:

When the body temperature reaches 38℃, you should actively reduce the fever, including physical and drug methods. Don’t wait until the body temperature reaches 39°C or the child has had a febrile convulsion before thinking about reducing the fever;

2. Short-term intermittent medication:

Children who have two febrile seizures or a single seizure lasting more than 15 minutes can take this treatment, that is, use anticonvulsant drugs when the body temperature exceeds 37.5℃, and stop taking the drugs after the body temperature returns to normal;

3. Long-term continuous medication:

That is, take anticonvulsant drugs for a long time. If the seizures have stopped for more than 2 years, slowly reduce the dosage and stop taking the drugs. This method is mainly suitable for babies in the following situations: short-term intermittent medication is ineffective; history of ≥4 febrile seizures; history of ≥2 low-grade febrile seizures (<38°C); history of no febrile seizures; single seizure duration is >15 minutes or continuous; and there are risk factors for epilepsy.
