What are the main symptoms of brain atrophy

Brain atrophy often occurs among some elderly people. This is because their physical functions decline and their brains shrink to a certain extent. There are many obvious symptoms, such as memory loss, difficulty in completing daily housework, and a gradual decline or even loss of language functions. The sense of time and space will also be gradually lost, and the judgment, thinking and inductive abilities will also gradually decline.

1. Significant memory loss.

People occasionally forget an appointment or a friend's name, but they can usually remember it later. Patients with Alzheimer's disease often forget the most common things and cannot recall them afterwards; sometimes they will ask the same question over and over again, but can never remember the answer, or even forget that they have ever asked the question.

2. Difficulty completing daily household chores.

Often people's attention may be distracted when they are busy, such as putting a bowl of food in the microwave. I was going to heat it up to eat, but only remembered after the meal that I hadn’t taken it out. Even if patients with Alzheimer's disease are able to cook, they often forget to put the food on the table, or even forget that they have already cooked the meal.

3. Language barriers.

Everyone may encounter a time when they can't find the right words. But other appropriate words are often used instead. Patients with Alzheimer's disease often forget some words or combine incoherent words irrationally, which is confusing.

4. Forget about time and lose orientation.

It's normal to temporarily forget what day it is or feel lost. But patients with Alzheimer's disease may get lost at their doorsteps or in familiar department stores, and they don't remember where they are. How did we get here, and how do we get back to where we were?

5. Judgment ability is significantly impaired.

When people are so absorbed in an activity, they may temporarily forget about other things, such as paying attention to their children, but they will remember it later. Patients with Alzheimer's disease may completely forget the children they are taking care of, go out alone for a long time, and forget that their children need care.

6. The ability to think and summarize is extremely reduced.

People who can normally handle numerical problems may sometimes be at a loss as to how to solve a problem because it is too complicated, but they will generally be able to find a solution that works. Patients with Alzheimer's disease not only forget numbers, but also forget how to use them.

7. Losing things unreasonably.

Anyone can misplace a watch or wallet, but you’ll eventually find it where you might have left it. But patients with Alzheimer's disease will put things in unreasonable places, such as putting an electric iron in the refrigerator and a watch in the sugar bowl, and they will never find them.

8. Abnormal changes in emotions and behaviors.

Everyone has bad tempers and low moods sometimes. But patients with Alzheimer's disease can go from extreme joy to extreme sorrow and then anger in a matter of minutes without any reason. Get angry, and finally calm down. Or showing joy when you should be sad.

9. Significant changes in personality.

People's personalities change at different ages. But the change won't be significant. The personality of patients with Alzheimer's disease will change significantly. For example, they may have been gentle and cheerful before, but now they may become irritable, suspicious, or have inexplicable fears.

10. Loss of autonomy.

Sometimes people get bored with housework, work or social activities, but patients with Alzheimer's disease become very passive and negative about everything. They need reminders and encouragement from others to participate in normal social activities.
