Numbness in fingers due to cervical compression

Numbness in fingers due to cervical compression

Cervical spondylosis can compress the nerves, causing the finger nerves to fail to respond, resulting in numbness in the fingers. This is mainly due to insufficient blood and hypoxia caused by nerve compression. The best treatment for numbness in the fingers caused by cervical compression is physical therapy and cervical traction. Relaxing the nerves in the fingers and promoting blood circulation in the fingers can alleviate the impact of cervical compression on the fingers. I hope everyone can treat it well.

1. What to do if your fingers become numb due to cervical spondylosis: physical therapy

physiotherapy. In the treatment of cervical spondylosis, physical therapy can play a variety of roles. It is generally believed that in the acute phase, iontophoresis, ultrasound, ultraviolet light or intermittent current can be used; after the pain is relieved, ultrasound, iodine ion penetration, induction electricity or other heat therapy can be used.

2. What to do if your fingers become numb due to cervical spondylosis: cervical traction therapy

Cervical traction therapy. This is a relatively effective and widely used treatment method for cervical spondylosis. This treatment is generally applicable to all types of cervical spondylosis and is more effective for early cases.

3. Causes of numbness in fingers due to cervical spondylosis

Due to a series of pathological changes in patients with cervical spondylosis, such as herniated or extruded nucleus pulposus, bone hyperplasia of the posterior facet joints, bone spur formation of the uncovertebral joints, and loosening and displacement of the facet joints, the spinal nerve roots may be stimulated, stretched, and compressed, leading to reactive edema of the spinal nerve roots and surrounding tissues, root canal stenosis, and possible adhesions at the root sleeves, resulting in symptoms of cervical spondylosis such as finger numbness. These pathological changes influence each other, which can prolong the course of the disease and cause repeated attacks. From an anatomical point of view, when the anterior roots of the spinal nerves are compressed, changes in muscle strength are likely to occur, while when the posterior roots are involved, sensory disturbances occur. In patients with radiculopathy, both conditions often coexist, that is, the symptoms of cervical spondylosis are mainly manifested in finger numbness and decreased grip strength. This is because in the narrow root canal, various tissues are densely packed, and the impact of forces and local aseptic inflammation cause the anterior and posterior roots to be affected at the same time. It is only because the sensory nerve fibers are more sensitive that the symptoms of cervical spondylosis appear earlier.

Because the lower part of the cervical spine moves more frequently and more frequently, the incidence of radiculopathy with finger numbness as the main symptom is higher, accounting for more than 60% of the total number of cervical spondylosis. It can be seen in all age groups.
