What is the significance of Toxoplasma gondii antibody testing?

The test for Toxoplasma antibodies is actually an identification of physical health. The significance of checking Toxoplasma antibodies is that it can directly determine whether the body is infected with Toxoplasma. If a pregnant woman is infected with Toxoplasma, it can easily cause abnormal development of the baby, which is not good for both the pregnant woman and the fetus. Therefore, everyone must pay attention to the Toxoplasma test.

Clinical significance

Abnormal results:

(1) Both IgG and IgM antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii are positive, or the IgG antibody titer is ≥1:512, indicating recent infection with Toxoplasma gondii.

(2) Both IgG and IgM antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii were negative, indicating that there was no Toxoplasma infection.

(3) The IgG antibody titer of Toxoplasma gondii is <1:512, and the IgM antibody is negative, indicating a history of infection.

(4) In addition, if the Toxoplasma IgG antibody titer in the duplicate sera increases by more than 4 times, then whether the IgM antibody is positive or not is an indicator of recent Toxoplasma infection.

People who need to be checked: People with high fever, muscle and joint pain, swollen lymph nodes, pregnant women, and newborns with central nervous system symptoms and congenital damage to the eyes and internal organs

Precautions

Requirements before inspection:

1. Do not eat greasy or high-protein food and avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol the day before blood collection. The alcohol content in the blood will directly affect the test results.

2. After 8 pm the day before the physical examination, you should start fasting for 12 hours to avoid affecting the test results.

3. Relax when drawing blood to avoid blood vessel contraction due to fear, which will increase the difficulty of blood collection.

After inspection:

1. After drawing blood, apply local pressure on the needle hole for 3-5 minutes to stop bleeding. Note: Do not rub to avoid causing subcutaneous hematoma.

2. The pressing time should be sufficient. The clotting time varies from person to person, and some people need a little longer to clot. Therefore, if you stop applying pressure immediately when the surface of the skin seems to be not bleeding, the bleeding may not stop completely, and the blood may seep into the subcutaneous layer, causing bruises. Therefore, pressing for a longer time can completely stop the bleeding. If there is a tendency of bleeding, the pressing time should be prolonged.
