What to do if glass fragments pierce your flesh

Various injuries often cause damage to the skin and soft tissues, and even limb amputation in severe cases. If the wound is treated correctly, it can heal quickly; otherwise, it may become infected and fester, and may not heal for a long time, and may even cause systemic infection, gas gangrene,

Tetanus and other life-threatening diseases. Therefore, traumatic wounds must be treated strictly and seriously.

Once the human body suffers trauma, if the wound is not treated in time, it is easy to cause infection.

The principles of wound care are:

1. Stop bleeding: Stop bleeding in time according to the specific situation.

2. Bandaging: Proper bandaging of the wound can reduce bleeding, festering and pain. When piercing, you must be fast, accurate,

Light, firm, and fast, the movements should be quick and agile; accurate, the parts should be accurate and strict; light, the movements should be light and not touch the wound; firm, the bandage should be firm and the tightness should be appropriate.

The specific steps are:

(1) Disinfect with iodine first and then with alcohol.

Wipe along the edge of the wound from the inside to the outside, and do not apply iodine or alcohol into the wound. If there is a foreign object in the wound, it must be handled with caution. If it is large and easy to remove, it can be taken out; if it is deep and small and difficult to remove, do not force it to be removed, so as not to bring bacteria into the wound or increase bleeding.

(2) For small wounds, a little mercurochrome (red solution) or gentian violet can be applied to the superficial surface. For larger wounds, it is not advisable to apply the above solutions to avoid making the next step of treatment more difficult. Cover the wound with sterile gauze or dressing.

And wrap it with a bandage (or triangular bandage). When there is intestinal or tissue protrusion, use a clean bowl and gauze loop to wrap the protrusion and then bandage it to prevent squeezing and damage to the tissue.

(3) When dealing with larger traumatic wounds, a detailed examination must be conducted. One should not only focus on the surface of the wound and ignore the internal damage. For patients with head wounds combined with craniocerebral trauma, the injured generally have abnormal consciousness and unusually large pupils on both sides. When chest wounds are combined with meningeal and lung cavity injuries, the injured generally have difficulty breathing. When abdominal wounds are combined with organ damage, the injured generally have abdominal muscle tension and abdominal pain. When limb wounds are combined with fractures, there will be limb movement disorders and abnormal bone movement.

Next, let's talk about the treatment of severed limbs due to major trauma. When encountering a severed limb or finger, it is important to not only protect the wound surface, but also to refrigerate the severed limb and send it to the hospital in a timely manner, and try to create conditions for the successful replantation of the severed limb.
