What is the normal value of uric acid? What happens if uric acid is high?

The product of purine metabolism is clinically called uric acid. Everyone knows that too high uric acid is not a good thing. The vast majority of gout patients have too high uric acid in their bodies. This shows that uric acid must be controlled within the normal range. Clinically, the normal values of uric acid in men and women are different. This is also related to people's physiological characteristics and there will be certain fluctuations. So what is the normal value of uric acid?

1. Normal value of uric acid

There are certain differences in the normal value of uric acid between genders, but it fluctuates within a certain range. According to the physiological characteristics of the human body, the normal uric acid value for women is 89~357umol/L, and the normal uric acid value for men is 149~416umol/L. Once this value is exceeded, it will cause high uric acid levels.

2. Gouty arthritis

When blood uric acid levels exceed normal levels, urate will form. Gout is when urate flows through the bloodstream to the distal ends of the lower limbs, where it is deposited in the form of crystals in and around the joints, compressing the nerves there and causing numbness and other discomfort. In severe cases, the pain is unbearable. If acute gouty arthritis recurs, it may develop into chronic arthritis over a long period of time, eventually leading to joint stiffness and deformity, and complete loss of function.

3. Gout stones

Urate deposits in connective tissue can slowly form tophi. Gout stones are common in the auricle, but are also common around joints and in areas such as the olecranon, Achilles tendon and patella. Clinical manifestations are persistent joint swelling, pain, tenderness, deformity and dysfunction.

4. Urinary stones

The incidence of urate stones in gout patients is 1,000 times that of normal people. The incidence of this disease is related to the blood uric acid concentration and uric acid excretion. When the uric acid in the urine increases and cannot be dissolved, stones may form. Stones may cause hematuria, renal colic and urinary tract infection.
