Do you know what causes hypertrophic scars?

Scar hyperplasia is a skin disease, also known as keloid, which is caused by excessive proliferation of fibrous connective tissue. The main causes are surgery, burns, etc. The affected areas are face, arms, back, and other parts of the body. Once scar hyperplasia occurs, we will feel burning pain in the skin, which is very distressing. Next, let’s take a look at the 6 major causes of scar hyperplasia.

1. During the process of wound healing, the mandibular scar proliferates. First, an inflammatory reaction occurs, and then myofibroblasts appear in the wound, divide and proliferate to synthesize collagen fibers, causing collagen deposition to form scars.

2. Infection

If the wound is infected, on the one hand, the remaining epithelial cells are destroyed, causing the wound to deepen and the healing time to be prolonged; on the other hand, inflammatory factors stimulate the proliferation of fibroblasts, and repeated infections will cause abnormal proliferation of granulation tissue.

Infiltration of inflammatory cells is a characteristic of granulation tissue. Infection increases the number of inflammatory cells. The more fibroblasts there are, the more likely scar hyperplasia will occur.

3. Changes in local skin tension

We all know that the direction of scars is completely different from the tension of our skin, which is also one of the main reasons for scar hyperplasia.

4. Age

Adolescents are in the puberty stage, with vigorous tissue growth, strong immune response after trauma, high skin tension, and prone to scar hyperplasia.

5. Pigment

People of color have more skin pigment cells, which are more likely to cause scars. The incidence of scars in blacks is about twice that of whites, and the incidence of burn scars in my country is also quite high.

6. Surgery

If people with scar-prone constitution adopt surgical excision treatment, it will stimulate fibroblasts, causing repeated scar proliferation. Therefore, surgical excision treatment should be strictly prohibited for people with scar-prone constitution.
