What to do if a finger is dislocated?

Many friends who love sports will know that strenuous exercise is prone to accidents, such as basketball. Accidents can easily lead to dislocation of fingers. The treatment of dislocation is actually quite simple and can be done by repositioning them. However, the ligaments and muscles still need to be cared for for a period of time after repositioning.

1. When an accident such as a collision occurs during exercise, the joint capsule and ligaments that wrap the joint become damaged or loose, causing the joint surface to slip out of the joint, which forms a dislocation.

2. Once a finger joint is dislocated, the joint deformity can be clearly seen from the appearance, and X-rays can also help with diagnosis. Treatment should be reduced as soon as possible. During reduction, the rescuer stretches the injured person's fingers distally (outside) to allow the joint surface to return to the joint position.

3. Since dislocation is usually accompanied by tearing of the joint capsule and ligaments, fixation should be performed after reduction to achieve natural repair of the joint capsule and ligaments. You can use the healthy finger next to the injured finger as a fixed support, fix the two fingers together, and fix them in the natural flexion position for 6 weeks.

4. Although the dislocated fingers have healed, the ligaments may be left with sequelae of ligament relaxation after healing. Such joints are relatively loose and may dislocate again in the future. Some people even develop habitual dislocations. In order to prevent habitual dislocations, rock climbing enthusiasts should strengthen finger strength training to compensate for joint instability caused by ligament relaxation. They can also use some support belts, finger guards, etc. to protect their fingers. In addition, attention should also be paid to mental concentration and movement coordination during exercise, and protection should be strengthened.

5. Long-term rock climbing enthusiasts, especially some professional athletes, all suffer from swollen finger joints. No abnormalities were found in their joints, and the athletes did not have any discomfort symptoms. Some people may occasionally experience some transient mild pain due to fatigue reaction.
