Can mumps cause infertility?

In fact, many people do not understand mumps. This disease not only affects health but also fertility. The reason is that the mumps virus will attack the testicles, causing swelling and pain. The testicles are the place where sperm is produced, so it is easy to affect fertility.

1. The mumps virus attacks the testicles, causing testicular swelling and pain, but after about 10 days, the testicles will be swollen and healed. At this time, the patient thinks he is cured, but in fact, the mumps virus has already damaged the testicular tissue.

2. According to relevant statistics, among male infertility patients, about 14% are caused by testicular failure, most of which are caused by mumps complicated with orchitis. In clinical practice, we often encounter infertile patients. When tracing their medical history, it is found that they had mumps during their childhood and adolescence.

3. Mumps is an acute respiratory infectious disease that mainly affects children aged 5-15 years old. The mumps virus not only has a special "affinity" for the parotid glands, but also particularly likes to invade the meninges and testicles. Once mumps is complicated by orchitis, high fever, testicular swelling and pain will occur. Due to the toxic effects of the virus, the testicular tissue is damaged, especially the seminiferous tubules that specialize in producing sperm, which are damaged and thus lose the ability to produce sperm. Therefore, parents should not ignore their children suffering from mumps.

4. Abnormal testicular spermatogenesis function. Common in cryptorchidism, varicocele, toxins, magnetic fields, high fever, trauma and other physical and chemical factors can cause testicular spermatogenesis disorders.

5. Abnormal sperm structure and seminal plasma. Affects sperm motility, capacitation and acrosome reaction, etc.

6. Immune infertility. Both male's own anti-sperm immunity and female's anti-sperm alloimmunity can cause male infertility.

7. Male sexual dysfunction. Impotence, premature ejaculation, anejaculation and retrograde ejaculation can all cause male infertility.
