Treatment for chronic foot ulcers

Treatment for chronic foot ulcers

People often have health problems, some of which are unavoidable and unpredictable. So rotten feet or legs are very serious, because people often use their feet and legs when walking, but if ulcers occur, they should be treated with attention. The treatment method is then chosen based on the specific condition. What are the treatments for chronic foot ulcers?

Treatment for leg ulcers

Modern treatments for old leg ulcers are mainly divided into two types: Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine. Western medicine treatment mainly includes compression therapy, sclerotherapy and surgical skin grafting, while traditional Chinese medicine treatment is through drug conditioning.

Compression therapy mainly uses external pressure from products such as elastic stockings to reduce edema in the patient's legs, but it is only suitable for some patients with milder old leg ulcers that have not yet ulcerated; sclerotherapy uses a hypertonic solution to destroy the vascular endothelium, causing it to disappear after healing. However, it can only be used to treat small varicose blood vessels, and the treatment may be extremely painful and prone to side effects. Surgical skin grafting is only used for some old legs with very serious wound ulcers and large areas of tissue necrosis. However, skin grafting surgery has risks and is expensive.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that old leg ulcers are caused by depletion of Qi and blood, blocked blood vessels, abnormal local Qi and blood circulation, as well as factors such as dampness, heat, injury, insect bites and eczema. Traditional Chinese medicine for treating old leg ulcers, such as ecthyma, uses the drug's effects to promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, and remove dead tissue and regenerate new tissue, thereby promoting the patient's wound healing as soon as possible. Compared with Western medicine treatment, Chinese medicine conditioning treatment has more advantages. It can repair the patient's sores better and faster and help the patient recover as soon as possible. It is the best treatment for chronic leg ulcers. In addition to external application, you can also take some oral prescriptions for promoting blood circulation and unblocking meridians, such as Buyang Huanwu Decoction with a few medicines for clearing heat and dampness: Plantain, Achyranthes bidentata, Phellodendron chinense, etc.

How to care for old rotten legs

During the treatment, you should also pay attention to the care of the patient's legs and pay attention to daily diet conditioning:

1. Keep warm and prevent cold, humidity and fatigue. Fatigue causes vasoconstriction in the affected limb, reducing blood flow and causing poor circulation. Nutritional disorders cause persistent ischemia and blood stasis, which make the symptoms more severe. Usually wear soft, comfortable and loose shoes, socks and clothes to keep the blood circulation in the feet smooth.

2. Eat a light diet, avoid high-sugar and high-fat foods, and reduce cholesterol intake.

3. Avoid standing or sitting for long periods of time. When the human body stands or sits still for a long time, the blood is under greater pressure on the venous valves of the lower limbs due to the action of gravity. The calf muscles are in a relatively relaxed state. The blood in the venous lumen is poorly emptied and the valves are constantly under high pressure. When the pressure is greater than the pressure resisted by the valve, the blood in the veins abnormally refluxes and gradually worsens, eventually aggravating local venous congestion.

4. Raise the affected limb to promote venous blood return in the lower limbs. Proper rest and elevation of the affected limb can promote blood return to the affected limb, reduce swelling of the affected limb and prevent leg ulcers. Take a proper walk to improve blood circulation.

5. Prevent trauma. Because the veins are tortuous and the walls are very thin, they are easily damaged, ruptured and bleeding, so you must take care to protect the affected limb and avoid trauma, frostbite or insect and animal bites.
