Why is the white of the eye yellowing? How to protect the eyes

Many people don’t know why the whites of their eyes turn yellow? In fact, if bilirubin accumulates in the body to a certain level and cannot be eliminated, it will cause yellowing of the eyeballs. However, if it is an eye disease, it may also be caused by the patient's improper diet. In addition, if the liver function is not good, there is a certain chance that problems such as yellowing of the whites of the eyes will occur.

1. What causes yellowing of the whites of the eyes?

1. If you stay in a sandy environment for a long time, the sand blowing into your eyes will cause the whites of your eyes to turn yellow.

2. If you stay up late or work for a long time, the whites of your eyes may turn yellow. At this time, as long as you adjust your work and rest time reasonably, you will recover in a relatively short time. You can also adjust your diet and eat some foods containing vitamins. It is relatively easy to adjust.

3. Clinically, the most common cause of yellowing of the whites of the eyes is icteric hepatitis, such as hepatocellular jaundice, hemolytic jaundice or obstructive jaundice. At this time, you should go to the hospital for further examination to determine whether there is any liver disease in your body.

2. How to protect your eyes

Many people have to stare at computer monitors all day long due to work needs. Over time, it is easy to cause visual fatigue and even induce some eye diseases. Therefore, it is important to learn how to protect your eyes.

Avoid operating the computer continuously for long periods of time and take breaks in between. Usually operate continuously for 1 hour, take a break for 5 to 10 minutes, and maintain a good working posture. Adopt the most appropriate posture, with your eyes looking level or slightly downward at the monitor. This will relax your neck muscles and minimize the area of your eyeballs exposed to the air.

Maintain an appropriate working distance. The distance between eyes and monitor should be kept at least 60 cm.

Create and maintain good working conditions. The ambient light should be soft, the display brightness should be appropriate, the clarity should be good, and the height of the desk and chair should match the height of the computer.

If your eyes become dry, red, burning or have a foreign body sensation, your eyelids become heavy, your vision becomes blurred, or you even have eye pain or headaches, and there is no significant improvement after rest, you should go to the hospital to see an ophthalmologist.
