Is nephritis contagious?

When it comes to nephritis, many people will be nervous and worry whether nephritis is contagious. In fact, nephritis is not contagious, but for patients, these diseases will cause more adverse effects and threaten the patient's health and life, so it is necessary to understand the symptoms and treat them accordingly.

In fact, most kidney diseases are not contagious at all. Glomerulonephritis is an allergic inflammation characterized by damage to the glomeruli. The main clinical manifestations include proteinuria, hematuria, edema and hypertension. Early symptoms are often not obvious and easily overlooked. In the late stage, it can cause renal failure, which seriously threatens the patient's health and life. It is the most common cause of renal failure. But it is not a genetic disease.

Serious complications in the acute phase mainly include severe circulatory congestion, hypertensive encephalopathy and acute renal failure. With the strengthening of prevention and control work in recent years, its incidence and mortality rate have dropped significantly.

1. Circulatory congestion state: due to water and sodium retention, blood volume depletion, and even pulmonary edema. The incidence rate varies from report to report and is related to the severity of the disease and the treatment.

2. Hypertensive encephalopathy: refers to a sharp increase in blood pressure (especially diastolic blood pressure) and the appearance of central nervous system symptoms. It is generally more common in children than in adults.

3. Acute renal failure: Some children with acute nephritis have varying degrees of azotemia in the acute phase, but only a very small number of them progress to acute renal failure. There are currently no effective preventive measures for complications, which have become the main cause of death from acute nephritis.

4. Secondary bacterial infection. Acute nephritis is prone to secondary infection due to reduced systemic resistance. The most common are lung and urinary tract infections. Once a secondary infection occurs, active symptomatic treatment should be given to avoid worsening of the disease.
