A swollen neck is a common symptom of thyroid enlargement. In addition, patients may experience dramatic changes in mood, the most common of which are susceptibility to fright and insomnia. They may also experience unrestricted increase in appetite while continuing to lose weight. 1. General manifestations include: acute onset, anxiety, tension, mood swings, insomnia, easy to be frightened, nervousness; trembling, muscle weakness, talkativeness, hyperactivity, periodic paralysis of the limbs; rapid heartbeat, palpitations, irregular heartbeat, increased blood pressure; increased appetite, weight loss, thirst, increased frequency of bowel movements; moist skin, increased body temperature, fear of heat, sweating, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath; bulging eyes, blurred vision, fear of light, eye pain, eye swelling, easy tearing; the appearance may include obvious swelling of the throat, thick neck, foreign body sensation in the throat; menstrual disorders or amenorrhea, infertility, miscarriage; and all symptoms of autonomic nervous system disorders may occur. 2. The thyroid gland is mostly diffusely enlarged; some may appear as nodules, without pain, and generally without systemic symptoms; some have transient symptoms of hyperthyroidism, and those with a long illness may have certain symptoms of reduced thyroid function, such as decreased appetite, weakness, mild edema, etc., which are more common in middle-aged women. 3. A lump in one lobe of the thyroid gland, which grows slowly, is usually solitary, has a complete capsule, is clearly demarcated from the surrounding normal tissue, is painless and tender, has a medium-hard texture, a smooth surface, is not adhered to the surrounding area, and can move up and down with swallowing. The neck is thickened and caused by a large goiter. The texture is generally soft. When the swelling is obvious, the mass in the front of the neck may protrude forward and fall or compress backward, causing shortness of breath or even dyspnea, or also cause a feeling of choking when swallowing. In the case of nodular type, the size and hardness of the nodules may be uneven, and some nodules are harder. There are generally no systemic symptoms, and there is a history of local epidemics. Patients with goiter often experience symptoms such as palpitations, chest tightness, heat intolerance, sweating, hand tremors, insomnia, increased appetite, weight loss, fatigue, diarrhea, goiter and exophthalmos after the onset of the disease. |
