Keratitis is an inflammatory disease of the cornea. There are many types of keratitis. Generally speaking, medication is the most common way to treat keratitis. As for what medicine is most effective for keratitis, everyone's symptoms are different, so the choice of medicine is also different. (1) Application of antibiotic eye drops: Generally, 0.25% chloramphenicol, 0.5%-1% neomycin, 0.1% rifampicin, 0.5% kanamycin eye drops, 0.25% gentamicin, 0.1% norfloxacin eye drops are commonly used and applied into the eyes 4 to 6 times a day. (2) Application of antibiotic eye ointment: During the corneal ulcer repair stage, in order to protect the ulcer surface, antibiotic eye ointment can be applied 2 to 3 times a day and covered with a disinfected eye pad. Commonly used ones include chloramphenicol eye ointment, tetracycline eye ointment and erythromycin eye ointment. (3) Application of mydriatic agents: Dilating the pupil can reduce iris irritation, prevent posterior synechiae, and put the eye in a resting state, which is conducive to the healing of ulcers. 0.5% to 1% atropine eye drops are commonly used, once a day. (4) Moist heat compress: Moist hot compress can dilate local blood vessels, promote blood circulation, improve local nutrition, and promote early healing of the ulcer surface. Generally, it is done twice a day, each time for 15 to 20 minutes. (5) Subconjunctival injection: For severe corneal ulcers, antibiotics can be injected under the conjunctiva, usually once a day. Commonly used ones are: gentamicin 20,000-40,000 units, neomycin 40 mg, penicillin 50,000-100,000 units, and polymyxin 150,000-170,000 units. (6) Application of hormones: Hormone treatment can be used for allergic keratitis and stromal keratitis, but it should be done under the guidance of an ophthalmologist. Generally, 0.5% cortisone eye drops are used 3 times a day; tetracycline cortisone eye ointment is used once a night, or 2.5 mg of dexamethasone is injected subconjunctivally, 1 to 2 times a week. Hormone therapy is contraindicated during the corneal ulcer stage as it may affect ulcer healing and worsen inflammation. |
