What to do if glue gets into your eyes, first do this

Accidents happen all the time in life. Some children are naughty and will unconsciously play with glue, and sometimes they get it in their eyes accidentally. Experts remind: Don’t rub your eyes at this time, rinsing is the most important thing.

The first thing you should do is prepare a basin of cold water to rinse your eyes. How to flush eyes: Use your index finger and thumb to separate the upper and lower eyelids when flushing. If necessary, turn the eyelids over to fully expose the conjunctiva. Turn the affected eye downward and use a water bottle to rinse from the inner canthus to the outer canthus. While rinsing, rotate the eyeball up and down and left and right to rinse all parts of the conjunctival sac. Be careful not to rinse directly at the cornea. The distance between the water bottle and the eye should not be too close to avoid injuring the eyeball, and should not be too far away to avoid excessive impact and damage the eyeball. The appropriate distance and sufficient force can flush some of the glue out of the eyes. It should be noted that patients with corneal inflammation, ulcers and other diseases must not rinse, so as to avoid corneal perforation and other aggravation of the condition.

Flushing can temporarily relieve the symptoms. Do not rub your eyes at this time. Regardless of whether you feel that all the glue has been flushed out, you should go to the hospital's ophthalmology department for examination, because some small dots and flakes of glue cannot be seen with the naked eye, and long-term adhesion will cause damage to the eyeball. Glue getting into the eyes is an ophthalmic emergency, and doctors will generally provide emergency treatment after making a preliminary assessment of the condition.

If the eyelids and eyelashes are stuck together, first cover the injured eye with gauze soaked in warm salt water, and then use a sterilized cotton swab to slowly separate the upper and lower eyelashes that are fused together so that the eyelids can open naturally. Then use topical anesthetic eye drops to fully anesthetize the eyes, and then use a sterilized cotton swab dipped in chloramphenicol eye drops under a slit lamp to gently wipe away the glue clots on the surface of the conjunctiva and cornea.

For those with strong adhesion of 502 glue, use toothless ophthalmic microforceps to remove it, then rinse the eyes with normal saline to remove foreign bodies in the conjunctival sac, and give antibiotic eye drops and eye drops that promote corneal epithelial repair alternately. If the corneal damage is large, apply antibiotic eye ointment and bandage the affected eye. If the symptoms are severe, antibiotics can be taken to prevent secondary infection. Generally speaking, if the diagnosis and treatment are timely, the prognosis is good.
