Five methods of TCM treatment for narcolepsy

Not many people know much about narcolepsy, but they may have had the disease themselves without knowing it. Although narcolepsy is rare in life, it takes a long time to treat if it occurs. Currently, narcolepsy is usually treated with traditional Chinese medicine, and different traditional Chinese medicine treatments are performed according to different people's conditions and constitutions.

One is the phlegm-dampness obstructing the spleen type.

It is more common in obese people, with symptoms such as chest tightness, poor appetite, uncomfortable bowel movements, vomiting due to sputum, sticky mouth, heavy body and drowsiness, greasy white tongue coating, and weak pulse. The treatment principle is to dry dampness, strengthen the spleen, eliminate phlegm and open the orifices. The prescription uses the Xingpi Kaiqiao Decoction with bamboo shavings, Pinellia, etc.

The second type is the lack of temper type. Common in disease

The elderly or the old may experience fatigue, abdominal distension, loss of appetite, drowsiness after eating, shortness of breath and laziness to speak, emaciation or obesity and edema, pale tongue with thin white coating, and weak pulse. The treatment principle is to invigorate Qi and strengthen the spleen. The prescription uses Xingpi Kaiqiao Decoction with ginseng, Atractylodes macrocephala, Astragalus membranaceus, etc.

The third is the liver depression and spleen deficiency type.

The patient suffers from long-term worry, listlessness, dizziness, drowsiness, frequent dreams, occasional discomfort in the flanks, poor appetite, difficulty in defecation or abdominal pain and diarrhea, thin white or slightly greasy tongue coating, and a stringy or astringent pulse. The treatment principle is to soothe the liver, strengthen the spleen and open the orifices. The prescription uses Xingpi Kaiqiao Decoction with Bupleurum, Codonopsis, Citrus aurantium, etc.

The fourth is the deficiency of both Qi and blood type.

The patient has a sallow or pale complexion, poor appetite, fatigue, palpitations, frequent dreams, shortness of breath, laziness to speak, spontaneous sweating, dizziness, pale and tender tongue with a thin white coating, and a deep, thready and weak pulse. The treatment principle is to invigorate Qi and nourish blood, invigorate the spleen and open the orifices. The prescription uses Xingpi Kaiqiao Decoction with astragalus, angelica, ginseng, etc.

The fifth is the dampness and turbidity obscuring type.

The patient feels heavy in the head, dry and sticky mouth without desire to drink water, chest tightness without hunger, difficulty in urination and defecation, and thick and greasy tongue coating. The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine says, "Where evil gathers, the Qi must be weak; where righteous Qi exists within, evil cannot invade." The head is the meeting point of all Yang. If it is obscured by dampness and turbidity, the clear Yang will not rise and the turbid Yin will not descend, then one will feel drowsy and sleepy. The treatment principle is to use aromatization to clear turbidity, wake up the spleen and open the orifices. The prescription uses Xingpi Kaiqiao Decoction with Perilla frutescens, Atractylodes lancea, White Cardamom, etc.
