Symptoms of anal fistula, be alert to repeated pus discharge

The most obvious clinical symptom of anal leakage is repeated pus discharge, as well as pain and itching. If such phenomena occur, it is necessary to diagnose it in time. Patients with anal leakage should pay attention to the cleanliness of the anus, have good hygiene habits, and treat constipation and diarrhea in time to prevent anal leakage.

1. Diagnosis

Pus and discharge repeatedly from the anus, which does not heal for a long time. Generally, there is more pus in the initial stage of anal fistula, but the pus gradually decreases over time.

If the amount of pus suddenly increases and there is anal pain, it often indicates an acute infection or the formation of new branches. There is generally no pain when the fistula is open. If the external opening is temporarily closed and pus accumulates, local pain may occur, and may be accompanied by systemic symptoms such as fever and chills. After the external opening breaks and pus flows out, the symptoms can be quickly relieved.

The external opening can be seen during visual examination of the anus. If the external opening is small and protruding, it is mostly purulent; if the external opening is large, sunken, and the surrounding skin is dark purple, it is mostly tuberculous. A hard cord can be felt under the perianal skin for low-position anal fistula, while it is generally difficult to feel for high-position or tuberculous fistulas.

2. Preventive conditioning

1. Keep the anus clean and develop good hygiene habits.

2. If an abscess is found around the anus, it is advisable to make an early incision and drain the pus. A one-time surgical treatment can prevent subsequent anal fistula.

3. Patients with anal fistula should be treated as early as possible to avoid blockage of the external opening, which may cause pus accumulation, poor excretion, and the formation of new branches.

4. Bleeding should be prevented after surgery, and dressing changes should be done carefully to prevent bridge-shaped healing.

3. Etiology and pathogenesis

After anal abscess bursts, pus cannot flow out smoothly, residual poison is not eliminated, internal obstruction occurs, qi and blood cannot flow smoothly, the wound does not heal for a long time, and it becomes fistula over time; or the patient suffers from consumptive tuberculosis, lung and kidney yin deficiency, damp heat takes advantage of the opportunity to invade the body, the pus turns into pus, the vital energy is insufficient, the pus cannot flow out smoothly, and it becomes fistula over time.
