Nail pain is a common condition for many people, especially toenail pain. Many people think that it is caused by wearing small shoes or squeezing the nails, and it will be fine as long as they take it slowly. Therefore, many people ignore it. It is not until the nails become hollow that people notice how serious this problem is. So what causes hollow nails? In fact, this is mostly caused by bacterial infection. Let’s take a closer look at it below! Apart from the recently-removed catchy advertising slogans such as Melatonin, we often see an advertisement that is played three or four times before watching TV, such as "If you have onychomycosis, one person will infect two people", etc. What exactly is onychomycosis? How could it rise up in the streets and alleys without anyone noticing? Almost overnight, everyone knew the term onychomycosis, but no one had ever studied the term in depth. Onychomycosis is a disease that begins on the sides or ends of the nails. It usually starts with a mild paronychia, where the edge of the nail meets the skin folds. This infectious lesion then gradually becomes chronic or subsides. Paronychia can cause pits or grooves on the nail surface, which may persist or accumulate at the nail root. Once the nails are infected, cracks may form, the nails may become brittle or thickened, and the inside of the nails may turn yellow, brown or black. This is because keratin and debris are deposited under the nails, causing the nails to become loose or cloudy and thickened. In severe cases, the nails may become hollow or even easy to fall off. The above symptoms are subungual onychomycosis. Another condition is fungal leukonychia. Fungal leukonychia is when one or more turbid areas appear on the nail surface with irregular shapes. These turbid areas can slowly spread to the entire nail plate, causing the nail surface to soften and sink. There are no symptoms or paronychia, but desquamation is often seen in the skin folds of the nail bed. The third situation is often combined with paronychia, which starts from the nail folds on both sides of the nails. It usually occurs in housewives, kitchen workers and other people who often come into contact with water. The skin is a little red and swollen, and pus will accumulate. It will be painful when pressed. In addition, the color of the nearby nails will become darker, and they will bulge high and separate from the nail bed of the nail below. Then the whole nail will be affected, and it will also cause the shocking nail to become hollow. |
