What are the symptoms of fulminant hepatitis-like syndrome

Fulminant hepatitis syndrome, including acute fatty liver of pregnancy or tetracycline-induced toxic hepatitis, is commonly manifested by abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, impaired consciousness, or fever, jaundice and other adverse symptoms.

1. Acute fatty liver of pregnancy

Most patients are primiparas aged 20 to 30 years old. In the late pregnancy (36 to 40 weeks), they suddenly develop facial edema, proteinuria, and hypertension, followed by upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and bleeding tendency, progressive jaundice, impaired consciousness, significantly increased blood bilirubin, negative urine bilirubin, no increase in blood ALT, and often hypoglycemia. The mortality rate is as high as 70% to 80%. Causes of death may be acute liver and kidney failure, fatal hypoglycemia, DIC, hemorrhagic pancreatitis, and gastrointestinal bleeding.

2. Acute fatty liver caused by tetracycline poisoning

Taking large amounts of tetracycline antibiotics can cause acute fatty liver, but it is more common in pregnant women. Pathological manifestations include diffuse fatty degeneration, hepatocellular necrosis and cholestasis. Clinical manifestations include sudden fever, jaundice, and impaired consciousness.

3. Reye syndrome

Also known as encephalopathy and fatty liver syndrome, it refers to brain edema and fat deposition in organs such as the liver and kidneys caused by viruses, poisoning and metabolic disorders. The clinical manifestations are cold-like precursor symptoms, followed by frequent vomiting and severe headaches 2 to 3 weeks later, followed by syndromes such as liver damage and impaired consciousness.
