Detailed explanation on how to check for parotid gland tumor

The appearance of parotid tumors is similar to other parotid gland diseases, so formal examinations are required to make a diagnosis. If you find any disease in your life, you should check it out in time and do not seek medical treatment on your own. You can take a look at the examination methods for parotid gland tumors.

Causes

Benign mesenchymal tumors are mainly hemangiomas and lymphangiomas, followed by lipomas. A few are neurofibromas arising from the facial nerve. Primary malignant lymphomas may also occur in the parotid gland. Other types of malignant tumors are rare. Pleomorphic adenomas grow slowly and expansively, and parotid tumors can be huge without facial paralysis. Sudden growth acceleration or onset of pain should prompt suspicion of malignancy.

Diagnostic tests

1. Medical history: pay attention to when the lump was discovered, whether there is pain, whether antibiotics have been used, and how effective they were.

2. Carefully palpate the size, range, hardness, and nodular or cystic nature of the mass. Whether the boundaries of the mass are clear, whether it can move, whether there are adhesions, whether it is fixed, and whether there is facial paralysis.

3. Based on the medical history and examination, analyze the nature of the mass, whether it is benign or malignant, and whether it has a capsule. If necessary, parotid gland angiography, radionuclide scanning or B-mode ultrasound examination should be performed.

4. Generally, no biopsy is performed before surgery. If necessary, a frozen biopsy is performed during surgery to determine the nature.
