What is myositis and is it serious?

Myositis is relatively unfamiliar to many people, and most people don’t know what myositis is and whether it is serious. In fact, myositis is an inflammation of the connective tissue between muscle fibers. Clinically, there are two main types: traumatic myositis and suppurative myositis.

1. Causes of myositis

Myositis refers to inflammation of muscle fibers and the connective tissue between muscle fibers. Traumatic myositis is the most common type clinically. It is caused by damage to muscle tissue due to vehicle collisions, slips, falls, fights, etc., and is often a non-open or aseptic inflammation. Pyogenic myositis is caused by the invasion of pyogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, etc. into muscle tissue. It is commonly seen in infections caused by open injuries, cellulitis, inadequate disinfection of intramuscular injections, or injection of irritating drugs.

2. Myositis symptoms

Traumatic or aseptic myositis: The affected area is significantly swollen, warm and painful to the touch, and may cause lameness. Pyogenic myositis: The affected area is hot, painful and swollen, and the lameness is severe. If it is an open injury, it is a purulent infection wound; if it is not open, an abscess will gradually form.

3. Myositis treatment

In the early stages of traumatic or sterile myositis, limit activity, apply cold compresses, and take oral or injected antipyretics and analgesics. After 24 to 48 hours, infrared, TDP and Zhou Lin spectrometer were used for irradiation. The treatment of pyomyositis is the same as that of suppurative wounds and abscesses.
