What are the causes of cholestatic cirrhosis?

The causes of cholestatic hepatitis are actually different, because some are secondary biliary cirrhosis and some are primary biliary cirrhosis. More often, the occurrence of these diseases is closely related to damage to the autoimmune system.

1. Secondary biliary cirrhosis. The common cause is obstruction of the bile duct system, such as compression of the extrahepatic bile duct by gallstones, tumors (cancer of the head of the pancreas, cancer of the ampulla of Vater), etc., causing stenosis and atresia. In children, the disease is mostly caused by congenital atresia of the extrahepatic bile duct, followed by cysts of the common bile duct, biliary cirrhosis, etc. This type of cirrhosis can be caused by complete obstruction of the biliary system for more than 6 months.

2. Primary biliary cirrhosis. This disease is rare in my country and its cause is unknown, but it may be related to autoimmune reaction. Autoantibodies and corresponding antigens can form large immune complexes, causing immune damage through the complement system. There are no obvious lesions in the large bile ducts inside and outside the liver. The interlobular bile duct epithelium in the portal duct area may undergo vacuolar degeneration and necrosis with lymphocyte infiltration. Then the small bile ducts are destroyed and cholestasis occurs. Fibrotic tissue proliferates and invades and separates the liver lobules, eventually developing into cirrhosis.

3. Liver diseases include hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, and cirrhosis. No matter which of these diseases occurs, it means that we should know the changes in our body after the occurrence of this disease. Understanding these contents can help the recovery of the liver.
