What are the physical reactions caused by thyroid cancer

Thyroid cancer is a common endocrine tumor in clinical practice. It can be divided into papillary thyroid cancer, follicular thyroid cancer, and medullary thyroid cancer. Most thyroid cancers have an insidious onset and no obvious symptoms in the early stages. They are often discovered during physical examinations. As the tumor continues to develop, physical reactions such as thyroid lumps, neck pain, hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, and difficulty breathing may occur.

1. Thyroid mass: A mass can be found in the thyroid gland of patients with thyroid cancer, which can move up and down with swallowing;

2. Neck pain: If the tumor invades or metastasizes to the neck tissue, it may cause neck pain. In severe cases, it may radiate to the ear and throat on the same side. Sometimes the pain will be aggravated when swallowing.

3. Hoarseness: If the tumor invades the recurrent laryngeal nerve, the patient may experience hoarseness. If the tumor invades or compresses the esophagus, the patient may experience difficulty swallowing.

4. Difficulty in swallowing: If the tumor compresses the esophagus, it may cause difficulty in swallowing when eating, and in severe cases, the patient may not be able to send food to the stomach;

5. Difficulty breathing: If the tumor compresses the trachea or invades large blood vessels, the patient may experience symptoms of difficulty breathing.

In addition to the common symptoms mentioned above, thyroid cancer patients may also experience symptoms such as hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. If thyroid cancer invades the trachea, it can cause severe coughing. If the tumor compresses the recurrent laryngeal nerve, it can cause choking and coughing when drinking water. Some patients may also experience thyroid crisis, which is a manifestation of thyroid cancer emergency.

After being diagnosed with thyroid cancer, surgical treatment is required. Some patients also need comprehensive treatments such as postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy. You should pay attention to adjusting your diet and avoid iodine-rich foods, such as kelp and seaweed.
