Does thyroid cancer require surgery?

Does thyroid cancer require surgery?

Whether thyroid cancer is suitable for surgery needs to be comprehensively judged based on the stage of thyroid cancer, pathological type, etc. If the patient has thyroid cancer, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time and choose the appropriate treatment method under the guidance of the doctor.

1. Early stage of thyroid cancer: If thyroid cancer is in the early stage, the tumor is small, and there is no spread or metastasis, it is generally easier to perform surgery. At this time, the lesion can be removed surgically to achieve the purpose of cure;

2. Mid-stage thyroid cancer: If thyroid cancer is in the mid-stage, the tumor is large, and has spread and metastasized, it is difficult to perform surgery. Because the condition is more serious at this time, surgical resection cannot completely remove the lesion, so it is difficult to perform surgery. Patients also need to receive auxiliary treatments such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy under the guidance of a doctor, which can inhibit the growth and spread of cancer cells and facilitate the recovery of the disease;

3. Late stage thyroid cancer: If thyroid cancer is in the late stage, the tumor is large, and distant metastasis has occurred, it is not easy to perform surgery. Because the patient's condition is serious at this time, surgical resection cannot completely remove the lesion, so it is not easy to perform surgery. Patients can improve their condition under the guidance of a doctor through radioactive iodine-131 treatment, targeted drug therapy, etc.

4. Other situations: If the patient is in poor physical condition, such as suffering from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes and other chronic diseases, it is not suitable for surgical treatment. This is because such patients have poor physical fitness and cannot tolerate the trauma caused by surgery and the risk of postoperative complications.
