Can the damaged vocal cords be restored? What should I do?

Patients with vocal cord problems must pay more attention to their daily lives so that they have a chance of recovery. In normal times, everyone should be careful not to overuse their voices, pay more attention to rest, and improve bad habits such as clearing the throat. If necessary, you can also go to the hospital for surgery, but you must choose a regular hospital.

1. Don’t overuse your voice. Vocal overuse refers to the misuse of the voice (voice) beyond one's ability. Everyone's vocal ability has three aspects: pitch (sound frequency range), intensity (vocal cord tension), and duration (the time used to pronounce the sound). If this range is exceeded, vocal cord disease will occur.

2. Actors should not eat too much before singing or teachers should not teach. It is best not to eat two hours before.

3. During the voice change period, menstrual period, and pregnancy period, the vocal cords undergo physiological changes. During this period, the vocal cord tissue is delicate and difficult to recover after trauma. During this period, you should pay attention to voice rest.

4. Bad living habits, such as addiction to cigarettes, alcohol, chili peppers, and cold drinks after singing, are harmful to the throat organs. Therefore, try to change such habits.

5. Change the habit of clearing your throat. Many people may often use this action to cough out phlegm in the throat or make their voice clearer, but this action causes the vocal cords to be severely tightened instantly, which can easily cause vocal cord damage.

6. It is best to abstain from speaking for more than 1-2 weeks after surgery for vocal cord polyps or nodules.

7. When you have a cold, you should pay attention to resting your voice, especially when you have hoarseness or have been diagnosed with laryngitis.

8. When singing high notes, the vocal cords are closed too tightly, causing the vocal cords on both sides to rub against each other, which is why more people suffer from occupational diseases in singing! A tip for you: if you really need to use your voice, try to use low notes as much as possible to prevent friction between your vocal cords.
