When we stew meat or make soup, there will be some blood foam floating in the meat. This must be removed cleanly. Not only does it look unhygienic, it is also bad for the body to eat. Only by soaking the meat in cold water can the blood foam in the meat be removed effectively.

1. How to remove blood foam from boiled meat

Be sure to use cold water to remove blood foam. Because during the slow heating process, the cold water can fully penetrate into the interior of the meat and bring out the blood foam. If you use hot water, the protein on the surface of the meat will shrink rapidly, and the blood foam will be difficult to remove.

Soup must be stewed with cold water to make it fresh, so the blood foam can be removed more cleanly when stewing the soup. But it’s hard to say when it comes to grilling meat. Because hot water is needed to make the meat tender. If you put the meat in hot water before removing the blood foam, the effect will not be good. Therefore, whether you are stewing soup or roasting meat, put the ingredients in cold water, heat them slowly for a while, wait for a large amount of blood foam to float up, scoop it out with a spoon or change the water before cooking.

When cooking meat, you can put a few pieces of kelp with small holes cut into the pot. They can absorb most of the floating foam. Do not eat the kelp that has absorbed the floating foam.

There are many capillaries in the muscles of animals, and after the animals are slaughtered, a lot of blood will remain in these capillaries. When cooking meat, the blood dissolves into the broth. The fat and cholesterol that are insoluble in water turn into liquid due to heat and float on the surface of the broth, forming foam.

Blood is responsible for transporting oxygen and nutrients, and metabolic waste is also transported by blood. Therefore, the foam in the broth also contains a lot of metabolic waste. Most animal metabolic wastes have adverse effects on human health, such as nitrogen-containing compounds that increase the burden on the liver and kidneys. Sometimes, there may be some toxic substances in animal feed. After being absorbed by the human body, these toxic substances will enter the blood circulation and finally need to be metabolized and detoxified by the liver.
