A bacterial culture experiment was conducted on watermelons that were placed in a refrigerator and wrapped in plastic wrap but not preserved for 17 hours. The result was quite unexpected. 1. Watermelons covered with plastic wrap actually breed more bacteria. The surface of the watermelon wrapped in plastic wrap is still wet, and condensed colorless droplets can be seen where the plastic wrap touches the watermelon flesh. 2. The half watermelon that was placed directly in the refrigerator had wilted flesh on the surface and contained significantly less moisture than the watermelon covered with plastic wrap. However, the number of bacterial flora is significantly lower than that of those preserved with plastic wrap. (II) Reasons for the increase in bacterial content in watermelon pulp treated with plastic wrap: 1. The watermelon pulp itself contains a certain amount of bacteria. When the plant grows, it will secrete some substances that inhibit the reproduction of bacteria. This is why the sweet potatoes grown in the field will not rot. When the watermelon is picked, the substances that inhibit the reproduction of bacteria will no longer be produced, so the bacteria inside the watermelon begin to multiply. 2. Use plastic wrap to cover the surface of the cut watermelon to form a relatively closed space inside the watermelon, preserving the moisture inside the watermelon. At the same time, the temperature inside the watermelon will not drop to 4 degrees Celsius quickly, which provides convenient conditions for the reproduction of bacteria. Because at a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius, the reproduction of bacteria will be inhibited. It is recommended to buy smaller watermelons, or not to keep them for too long, especially not overnight. |
