Woman doing IVF

I believe that everyone is familiar with the term in vitro fertilization in their daily lives. Even if in vitro fertilization is not something that happens around you, you should have seen it on TV often. However, only women who are physically unable to get pregnant will choose IVF, because the process of IVF is very complicated. Next, I will give you a detailed introduction to the specific process of women undergoing in vitro fertilization.

Today, let’s explore the secrets of in vitro fertilization technology. Due to its complicated steps and meticulous operation, it is N times more difficult than natural pregnancy. Generally speaking, the surgical process is as follows: taking medication to induce ovulation - egg retrieval - fertilization - embryo transfer - confirmation of pregnancy.

1. Puncture and egg retrieval. Generally, women only produce one egg a month, but in order to obtain multiple eggs, women will take ovulation-stimulating drugs in advance. The main purpose of down-regulation is to inhibit the growth of strong follicles in order to increase the success rate of in vitro fertilization.

Although egg retrieval is usually performed under intravenous anesthesia, most women still feel a needle-like pain during the puncture.

Ovulation drugs have many side effects, and the egg retrieval process may cause pregnant mothers to suffer bladder damage, ovarian bleeding, pelvic infection, ovarian torsion, etc., as well as nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, weight gain, oliguria, and renal failure.

2. Undergo in vitro fertilization. While the woman is collecting eggs, the man is collecting sperm. After the semen goes through a special washing process, the sperm will be placed in a special culture dish with the egg in the hope that they will naturally combine to form an embryo.

The most critical step in the in vitro fertilization stage is that if the sperm itself is not strong enough in the culture vessel, the doctor will give the sperm a helping hand and send it into the egg to turn the egg into a fertilized egg.

3. Perform embryo transplant. The embryo survives in the culture dish for 3 to 5 days and is then transplanted into the mother's uterus. The rest of the pregnancy proceeds just like a natural one until normal delivery. If the patient is under 35 years old and undergoing IVF for the first time, a maximum of 2 implants can be made. For those over 35, only three embryos can be deposited, and the extra embryos will be frozen.

The woman walked out of the operating room after the operation△

After the embryos are successfully implanted, if all three implanted embryos develop well, the doctor will perform a fetal reduction surgery based on relevant requirements to reduce the chance of triplets or twins.

Because multiple embryos are transplanted into the uterus, the multiple pregnancy rate is significantly higher than natural pregnancy, the risk of miscarriage and premature birth in late pregnancy is significantly higher than single pregnancy, and the risk of pregnant women developing gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, dystocia and postpartum hemorrhage will also be greatly increased.

4. Confirm pregnancy. The embryo implants and grows in the uterus, and two weeks later the woman can check whether she is pregnant.

If the implanted fertilized egg cannot implant in the woman's uterus as expected, the above steps need to be repeated again, and the woman will face a new wave of harm.

If you decide to have IVF, you should prepare yourself mentally and maintain a good attitude, so it is necessary to gain the support and understanding of your family. In addition to mental state, regular work and rest, good eating habits, etc. will be of certain help to the test tube.
