What is the chance of having a boy with IVF?

The key to whether a baby is a boy or a girl depends on the chromosomes. There are 23 pairs of chromosomes in human germ cells, or 46 chromosomes, of which 22 pairs are autosomes and 1 pair is sex chromosomes, namely XY chromosomes. Females have XX sex chromosomes, while males have XY sex chromosomes.

If the fetus is developed from the combination of sperm and egg containing X chromosomes, the fertilized egg is XX type and the sex of the fetus is female; if the fetus is developed from the combination of sperm and egg containing Y chromosomes, the fertilized egg is XY type and the sex of the fetus is male.

The sex of the baby depends on whether the sperm used in fertilization is an X sperm or a Y sperm. From a biological point of view, the combination of sperm and egg is random, and the probability of having a boy or a girl is equal, so as to maintain the general balance of the human gender ratio.

From this point of view, although the IVF technology is a process in which an embryo is formed in vitro and then implanted into the female uterus, the probability of having a boy or a girl is the same as natural pregnancy, which depends entirely on the chromosomes of the couple.

IVF survival rate

The success rate of in vitro fertilization is an issue that everyone is very concerned about. Generally speaking, the monthly chance of natural pregnancy for normal couples of childbearing age does not exceed 20%.

Put it in simple terms. This means that not every couple can easily get a baby every month if they want one. Likewise, not every IVF cycle is successful. The international success rate of in vitro fertilization is around 30%, and the overall success rate in China is relatively lower. However, in a small number of centers with mature and well-regulated technologies, the success rate is still higher than 30%.

There are many complex factors that determine the success rate of "test tube babies". Most of them are the technical level and degree of responsibility of the reproductive center. For the patient herself, the most important factor is the age of the woman. For example, in our center, the clinical pregnancy rate in the first treatment cycle is as high as 60% for patients under 30 years old, while for patients older than 36 years old. The pregnancy rate in the first cycle is just over 30%.

Chromosomal abnormalities are common, and the probability of pregnancy is determined mainly by considering the location of the abnormal chromosome and the degree of deletion. Generally, situations that really affect fertility are rare, and the probability of fertility is 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, etc. If you encounter this problem, you can use test tubes for the third generation, and screen out abnormal embryos through chromosome comparison, so that the success rate will not be greatly affected.
