What are the harms of x-rays to the body

X-rays are a type of radiation we are exposed to during medical examinations. Although they are not good for our bodies, they are something we must do when we are examined after getting sick. However, if we do not come into contact with them frequently, it will not cause any serious effects on the body. It is better to avoid contact with such things as much as possible in normal times. So, what are the hazards of x-rays to the body? Let’s take a look.

X-rays can cause damage to human tissue. The degree of damage to the human body caused by X-ray radiation is related to the amount (intensity and area) and location of radiation exposure. The eyes and head are more susceptible to damage.

There is no doubt that the radiation from radioactive substances will definitely cause certain harm to the human body. So how serious are the hazards of X-rays? A certain dose of X-rays can cause ionizing radiation to biological cells, especially cells with strong proliferation, causing cell inhibition, damage, and even necrosis. When the human body is exposed to X-rays, different reactions may occur depending on its sensitivity to the X-rays. The more proliferative the cells, the more sensitive they are to X-rays. At present, the ionizing radiation that ordinary people can be exposed to in life mainly comes from medical radiation, among which the radiation from X-ray examinations is the main source of ionizing radiation that non-professionals may be exposed to. According to the research results of the International Commission on Radiological Protection, approximately 350 people in Beijing may develop cancer, leukemia or other genetic diseases due to X-ray exposure each year.

Through the above introduction, we know the harm of x-rays to the body. This is also a situation that we often encounter in medicine. As long as we have less contact with it, it will be fine. In addition, medical staff should also pay attention to protective measures in normal times, especially pay attention to the correct operating methods when working, which is particularly important for protecting themselves.
