What is the correct way to clean dentures?

Many middle-aged and elderly people use dentures in their daily lives. In fact, dentures are the same as their own teeth and need to be cleaned regularly, otherwise stains will easily accumulate, making it easy for germs to enter the body from the mouth. Friends who use dentures should also know about cleaning.

1. Dentures are not cleaned thoroughly

It can produce odor, affect diet, reduce gastrointestinal function, breed bacteria, and cause ulcers or other oral and visceral diseases.

2. Improper denture cleaning methods

Improper use of hot water or alcohol for soaking or rinsing can damage or deform dentures, reducing their service life; toothbrushes can easily wear out dentures, create brush marks, and hide bacteria that can infect the oral cavity.

3. Improper use of dentures

If dentures are used for too long, they may not fit properly, causing chewing pain, inability to eat normally, friction, swelling, pain, and ulcers; and may lead to diseases such as caries, periodontal disease, and denture stomatitis.

The above describes the common inappropriate aspects of denture care. So what aspects of denture care should be paid attention to, or what are the tips for denture care? The care of removable dentures can be summarized as "three-word formula":

1. Pick

In order to maintain oral hygiene and avoid gum damage, dentures should be removed and cleaned after meals. Dentures should be removed before going to bed and stored in a cleaning box to keep the oral mucosa healthy.

2. "Bubble"

To wash dentures, just use a cleaning tablet and clean water. Do not soak them in hot water or alcohol to avoid aging and deformation. Take out your dentures before going to bed every night and soak them in cleaning solution for 3-4 hours. For those with heavy tartar, soaking all night will be more effective.

3. "Sticky"

If dentures do not fit firmly in the mouth, they can easily wear out the gums, breed bacteria, and affect healthy eating. Dentures should be repaired or updated in a timely manner so that they fit tightly into the mouth and are comfortable to chew.
