How to choose dentures

In our daily life, many people always have a careless attitude towards life, which can easily lead to some physical problems. Among them, improper diet or frequent consumption of sweets can easily lead to dental problems. Sometimes, when teeth fall out, dentures need to be installed so as not to affect our chewing ability and appearance. However, dentures also come in many varieties. Let's learn about how to choose dentures.

How to choose dentures

Generally speaking, dentures can be divided into three categories: removable dentures, fixed dentures and implant dentures. Each type of denture has its corresponding indications and characteristics.

Removable dentures (commonly known as removable dentures)

This type of denture is fixed in the mouth by means of clasps and other means, and the patient can take it off and put it on by himself.

Advantages: wide range of indications, less removal of natural tooth tissue, and relatively low cost.

Disadvantages: The base is large and difficult for patients to adapt to; the dentures need to be removed for cleaning after meals and before going to bed, which is always inconvenient; the exposed clasps affect the appearance.

Fixed dentures (commonly known as fixed dentures)

This type of denture is fixed in the mouth by adhesive, and the patient cannot take it off and put it on by himself.

Advantages: Similar to natural teeth, almost no foreign body sensation; can better restore chewing function; good aesthetic effect.

Disadvantages: A lot of natural tooth tissue adjacent to the defect needs to be removed; the indication requirements are high; the cost is high.

Implant dentures (commonly known as dental implants)

This type of denture first implants the implant (i.e. artificial tooth root) into the alveolar bone of the toothless area. After a period of time, a fixed or removable denture is restored on the top of the implant.

Advantages: In addition to the advantages of fixed dentures, there is no need to grind off the natural tooth tissue adjacent to the gap; this expands the indications for fixed dentures.

Disadvantages: It requires high overall health and oral health; the treatment course is long; the cost is high.

Each type of denture has its advantages and disadvantages. The doctor will provide treatment plans or suggestions based on the patient's specific conditions. The patient can choose suitable dentures based on his or her own conditions, living habits and financial situation.

The above is an introduction to how to choose dentures. After understanding, we know that dentures are generally divided into removable and fixed, and the materials of dentures are also varied. We can choose according to our financial ability and our oral condition. In addition, we must ensure good oral hygiene in our daily life.
