Will frequent nose picking cause rhinitis?

Colds and fevers are common diseases among people, and the symptoms after a cold often cause people to suffer from rhinitis. Picking your nose is a bad habit, but some people still develop this habit. So you may often have nosebleeds, so you should pay attention to protecting your nose. So will you get rhinitis if you pick your nose frequently?

Otolaryngologists say that in addition to the weather, some small habits can also cause rhinitis. For example, frequent nose picking can easily damage the nasal mucosa, cause nasal infection, induce rhinitis, and pose a health hazard to the nasal cavity.

Frequent nose picking can easily lead to rhinitis

The skin inside the nasal cavity is very thin. When you pick your nose with your hands, the hard nails will damage the mucosa at the front of the nose, which can easily cause infection and induce rhinitis. Some people may think that there will be no problem if they are careful when picking their nose. In fact, this is not the case. Doctors emphasize that even if the nasal mucosa is not injured, a large number of viruses carried in the nails will remain in the nasal cavity. Once the temperature, humidity and nutrition in the nasal cavity reach the conditions required for the survival of the virus, it will multiply in large numbers, causing upper respiratory tract infection and leading to more serious diseases.

Prevent rhinitis and get rid of bad habits

In addition, many people in life like to pick their ears and rub their eyes. For people with such habits, experts recommend that they should not pick their noses, ear canals, or rub their eyes. Because hands are dirty, bacteria are inevitably introduced during contact, causing infection. When your ears itch, you can wipe them with a towel. When your eyes itch, you can rinse them with warm water. The least recommended method is to rub them with your hands. Regular cleaning of the nasal cavity is also important. Wash your nose with tap water or warm water, and use a nasal irrigator if necessary, to remove viruses and secretions from the nasal cavity.
