How to treat whooping cough quickly

After the baby has whooping cough. If the symptoms are severe and the baby is extremely uncomfortable, mothers should take the baby to see a doctor immediately. According to the doctor's instructions, the baby can be given appropriate amounts of medication to relieve the symptoms. What medicine is good for whooping cough? Here are some medicines that can relieve your baby's whooping cough symptoms.

1. You can use procaine hydrochloride 3-5mg/kg/time, add it to 30-50ml of glucose and drip it intravenously, 1-2 times/day, for 3-5 consecutive days, which has an antispasmodic effect. Vitamin K1 can also relieve spasmodic coughs.

2. When infants and young children have convulsive coughs, you can lower their heads and pat their backs gently. Those with severe cough can take hibernation spirit or phenergan before going to bed, which will help sleep and reduce coughing.

3. If the child suffocates, artificial respiration, suction and oxygen administration should be performed promptly. In severe cases, sedatives such as phenobarbital or diazepam may be used appropriately. Those with thick sputum can be given expectorants or nebulized inhalation. Severely ill infants may be given corticosteroids to reduce inflammation.

4. Antibiotic treatment. The use of antibiotics within 4 days of the catarrhal stage can shorten the duration of coughing or block the occurrence of spasmodic cough. Application after 4 days or during the spasmodic cough period can shorten the bacteria excretion period and prevent secondary infection, but it cannot shorten the course of the disease. The first choice is erythromycin 30-50 mg/kg/day for 7-10 days. Chloramphenicol (same dosage as above), or co-trimoxazole, ampicillin, etc. can also be used.

5. Treatment with traditional Chinese medicine. Bile preparations have a significant inhibitory effect on Bordetella pertussis. It also has a certain sedative effect. You can use chicken bile and white sugar and steam it. For children under six months old, take 1/3 of an envelope per day; for children between six months and one year old, take 1/2 of an envelope per day; for children between one and three years old, take 1 envelope per day until recovery. It can also be replaced by pig bile.

How to care for whooping cough

Babies with whooping cough are already feeling very uncomfortable. In addition to taking their babies to see a doctor for treatment, mothers should also provide appropriate care for their babies in daily life to alleviate their discomfort. Let’s learn how to care for a baby with whooping cough.

1. Strictly implement respiratory isolation for sick babies. The isolation period starts from the onset of illness and lasts for 7 weeks; or starts from the onset of spasmodic cough and lasts for 4 weeks. Adult patients should be careful to avoid contact with children.

2. The air in the sick child's room should be kept fresh, but the baby should be prevented from catching a cold.

3. Wash and dry baby’s clothes and bedding frequently to keep them clean.

4. Pay attention to dietary adjustments to ensure the daily supply of calories, fluids, vitamins and other nutrients. Especially children whose coughing and vomiting affect their eating. The diet should emphasize nutrition, small meals and frequent meals, and at the same time, the physical fitness of the child should be strengthened.

5. The child should stay in bed to rest, maintain a good mood, and stop crying. For children whose frequent coughing at night affects their sleep, sedatives may be given as appropriate.

6. Expect phlegm in time to prevent respiratory apnea. Some drugs that can dilute sputum can be given to make it easier to cough up, but this method is not suitable for people with severe cough reactions or small infants. In case of severe sputum obstruction, a suction device should be used to suck out the secretions.

7. When respiratory apnea, cyanosis, hypoxia, or convulsion occurs, artificial respiration (using a ventilator if possible), oxygen inhalation, and suction of sputum should be given. Anticonvulsants should be used in case of convulsions.
