What causes dry mouth, bitter taste and bad breath?

In daily life, many friends often experience dry mouth, bitter mouth and bad breath. This phenomenon is a relatively common phenomenon. Some friends think that this is mainly caused by excessive dehydration in the body, but in fact, the reason is not just this, there are many other reasons. Only by knowing the cause and adjusting it in time is the most correct. So, what is the matter with dry mouth, bitter mouth and bad breath?

Patients feel a distinct bitter taste in their mouths, accompanied by dry mouth and tongue, distension and pain in the flanks, short and yellow urine, etc. These symptoms are often diagnosed as damp-heat in the liver and gallbladder in traditional Chinese medicine. Clinically, patients with liver and gallbladder damp-heat types such as acute hepatitis, acute cholecystitis, and acute urethritis often feel a bitter taste in the mouth. The symptoms of bitter taste in the mouth can be quickly improved by taking Chinese medicines such as Plantain, Centella asiatica, and Artemisia capillaris that can clear away heat and dampness, and soothe the liver and gallbladder.

The oral cavity of a healthy person generally feels fresh and comfortable, except for a slight bitter or sour feeling in the mouth when waking up at night or for a short while after getting up in the morning. Many people will have abnormal taste when they are sick: light, dry, sour, sweet, bitter, spicy, numb, etc., among which bitter taste is the most common.

Abnormal taste is different from bad breath. It is a subjective feeling of the patient and cannot be experienced by people around him.

Psychogenic or emotional bitter taste in the mouth often occurs or worsens when one is nervous, angry, irritable, anxious, fearful, restless, or suffering from insomnia. Among 286 patients with bitter taste in the mouth investigated and analyzed by domestic doctors, 171 (60%) suffered from psychogenic bitter taste in the mouth. They also had functional gastrointestinal diseases such as functional dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome.

Doctors describe that patients with neurosis will have symptoms such as mental bitter taste in the mouth, mental bad breath, mental foreign body sensation in the throat and mental vomiting appearing alternately or simultaneously; Karaleykin also observed that patients with neurasthenia tend to have bitter taste in the mouth and negative emotions appearing simultaneously.

There are many causes of bitter taste in the mouth, and the most common one is liver failure to discharge qi. It is often related to emotions, moods, and complexes. One is liver qi stagnation and failure to discharge qi. The second is caused by emotional depression and anger that damage the liver. The third is caused by emotional complex, which often causes depression, sadness, crying, swelling and pain in the chest, ribs, breasts or lower abdomen, etc. Fourth, liver qi is hyperactive or excessively released, which is mostly caused by violent anger damaging the liver and disorder of qi. Fifth, the liver yang is excessive, which turns into fire over time. The fire forces the bile to flow up into the mouth and causes pain.

The above introduces some of the causes of dry mouth, bitter taste and bad breath. Patients can regulate their bodies according to the reasons described above, so that our bodies can recover well. Otherwise, this disease is very painful and has a great impact on our daily life. I hope you recover soon!
