Several major hazards of hemangioma behind the ear

Hemangioma is a benign tumor that can occur at any age, but most often occurs in infants or young people. Moreover, hemangiomas can appear in many places, such as behind the ears, neck, and even oral mucosa. Once you suffer from hemangioma, you must go to the hospital for treatment immediately, whether it is conventional surgery or cryotherapy. Let’s take a look at the dangers caused by hemangiomas.

Organ function damage caused by hemangioma includes:

(1) Vision

Hemangiomas around the orbit have a significant impact on vision, especially hemangiomas on the upper eyelid, which can cause refractory astigmatism, myopia, and strabismus. Retrobulbar capillary hemangioma can cause blindness. In the late stage, it may cause ptosis and protrusion of the eyeball. Lower eyelid hemangioma has little impact on vision.

(2) Respiratory system: Larger hemangiomas of the tongue and pharynx can block the respiratory tract, and large areas of cervical hemangiomas can compress the trachea, causing severe breathing difficulties, and in severe cases can lead to suffocation and death of the child.

(3) Hemangiomas located in the parotid gland can block the external auditory canal, leading to varying degrees of conductive hearing loss. If the hemangioma cannot regress on its own, it will have a long-term impact on the child's hearing and may affect the formation of his or her language ability.

(4) Congestive heart failure

It is a fatal complication in children with multiple subcutaneous and visceral hemangiomas. The incidence of heart failure caused by multiple subcutaneous hemangiomas without visceral hemangiomas is not high, but due to the extensive abnormal communication between small arteries and veins, a significant decrease in peripheral vascular resistance can be produced, thereby significantly increasing cardiac output, resulting in shortness of breath, increased heart rate and enlarged heart.

Because hemangiomas continue to grow over time, when they grow to a certain size, they may cause damage to the human bones and easily lead to limb deformities, and some patients may even suffer fractures. Therefore, hemangioma must be given enough attention and must be treated in the hospital.
