What is flaccid paralysis

What is flaccid paralysis

Have you ever heard of acute flaccid paralysis? Flaccid paralysis is not a single disease type, but a group of syndromes characterized by acute onset, decreased muscle tone, decreased muscle strength, and weakened or absent tendon reflexes. It usually presents with acute onset, decreased muscle tone, decreased muscle strength, and decreased or absent tendon reflexes. So what are the cases? Let me introduce it to you.

1. General Cases

(1) Poliomyelitis;

(2) Guillain-Barré syndrome (infectious polyradiculoneuritis, GBS);

(3) Transverse myelitis, myelitis, encephalomyelitis, acute radiculomyelitis;

(4) Polyneuropathy (drug-induced polyneuropathy, polyneuropathy caused by toxic substances, polyneuropathy of unknown cause);

(5) Radiculitis;

(6) Traumatic neuritis (including neuritis caused by gluteal muscle drug injection);

(7) Mononeuritis;

(8) Plexus inflammation;

(9) Periodic paralysis (including hypokalemic paralysis, hyperkalemic paralysis, and normokalemic paralysis);

(10) Myopathy (including generalized myasthenia gravis, toxicity, and myopathy of unknown cause);

(11) Acute polymyositis;

(12) Botulism;

(13) Quadriplegia, paraplegia and monoplegia (unknown cause);

(14) Transient limb paralysis.

2. High-risk AFP cases

AFP cases who are under 5 years old, have received less than 3 OPV vaccinations or have unknown vaccination history, or have not had qualified stool specimens collected; or cases clinically suspected of polio.

3. Clustered clinically consistent cases

Two or more clinically consistent cases were found in the same county (district) or adjacent counties (districts), with the onset interval within 2 months.

4. Polio vaccine-derived virus (VDPV) cases (referred to as VDPV cases)

VDPV was isolated from stool specimens of AFP cases. Compared with the original vaccine strain virus, the full gene sequence variation in the VP1 region of this virus ranges from 1% to 15%. If two or more related VDPV cases occur, they are considered VDPV cycles (cVDPVs).

I think everyone now knows what kind of disease flaccid paralysis is! It is usually serious and requires long-term treatment. When you feel unwell, you must undergo appropriate examinations and treatment. If the condition is serious, you need to go to the hospital for tests and follow the doctor's instructions. You should also pay attention to your eating habits, try to keep your meals as light and nutritious as possible, eat small meals frequently, and avoid overeating. We should strengthen physical exercise to keep fit. Thereby reducing the occurrence of diseases!
