If our sleeping posture is incorrect at night or the pillow is too low, it is easy to get a stiff neck. A stiff neck is not only painful but also has a certain impact on our work and study. I used to have stiff neck frequently. Now I will massage to treat it every time I have a stiff neck. I would like to share with you the method I think is to treat a stiff neck. (1) Massage: Stand behind the patient with stiff neck and press lightly on the neck with one finger to find the most painful point. Then use your thumb to start from the top of the neck on that side and massage all the way to the shoulder and back. Massage the most painful point vigorously until you feel obvious soreness and swelling, which indicates that the force is enough. Repeat this massage 2 to 3 times. Then tap the massaged area with a hollow fist and repeat 2 to 3 times. Repeating the above massage and tapping can quickly relax the spasmodic neck muscles and relieve pain. (2) Hot compress: Hot water bottles, electric hand warmers, hot towels and infrared bulbs can all relieve pain. Care must be taken to avoid burns. (3) Choose safflower oil, Gancunshan rheumatism oil, Yun essence, etc., rub the painful area 2 to 3 times a day, which will have a certain effect. (4) Apply the Shangshi Pain-Relieving Plaster or Pengxiang Pain-Relieving Plaster to the painful area of the neck and change it once a day. The pain-relieving effect is ideal, but the patient will feel that the neck movement is restricted after applying the plaster. Pregnant women should avoid using it. (5) Ear acupuncture: Place the auricular acupuncture points on the neck and occipital area. Press the auricular acupuncture points with the tip of the index finger for 5 to 10 minutes, or massage the auricular acupuncture points with the tip of the index finger. (6) Acupuncture: For those who cannot bend forward or backward, use the Dashu, Jinggu, and Kunlun points. For those who cannot look left or right, use the Jianwaiyu, Houxi, and Fengchi points. Generally, the Xuan Zhong point can be selected, which is located three inches above the Zuwaidong point. Acupuncture is performed for 4 to 5 minutes and moxibustion is performed 3 to 7 times. You can also massage this point for 15 minutes each time. (7) Take one painkiller orally for temporary pain relief. (8) Change your sleeping position, adjust the height of your pillow, and move your neck. (9) If the condition is caused by cervical spondylosis, perform self-cervical traction therapy at home under the guidance of a physical therapist. (10) For patients with severe stiff neck, local injection of 10 ml of 0.25% novocaine can produce significant analgesic effect. These are the methods I know of for treating stiff neck.
