The efficacy and function of molasses

The efficacy and function of molasses

Life is like a mixture of five flavors, sweet, sour, bitter and spicy, which are all indispensable seasonings in life. Life becomes colorful because of them. Otherwise, it is an imperfect life. If life is just calm, it would be too ordinary and boring. When we feel that the pressure of life is too great and unbearable, if we can add a little dessert, life will be more beautiful.

Molasses is a sweetener in life. The main ingredient of molasses is sugar cane, and the types of sugar cane are different, so the molasses made will also be different. In addition, molasses can also be used as a fermentation material. There are many kinds of raw materials that can be made into molasses, such as grapes and corn.

Molasses is a byproduct of the sugar industry. It is a viscous, dark brown, semi-fluid substance. Its composition varies depending on the raw materials and processing conditions of sugar production. It mainly contains a large amount of fermentable sugar (mainly sucrose), so it is a good fermentation raw material. It can be used as a substrate or base material for fermentation products such as yeast, monosodium glutamate, and organic acids, and can be used as a raw material for certain foods and animal feed.

The larger molasses production includes beet molasses, sugar cane molasses, grape molasses, and corn molasses, while the smaller production includes invert molasses and refined molasses.

Molasses contains a small amount of crude protein, generally 3% to 6%, which is mostly non-protein nitrogen, such as ammonia, amides and nitrates, while amino acid nitrogen accounts for only 38% to 50%, and non-essential amino acids such as aspartic acid and glutamic acid are more abundant, so the biological value of protein is low. However, aspartic acid and glutamic acid are both flavor amino acids, so they can greatly stimulate animal appetite when used in animal feed.

The main component of molasses is sugar. Sugarcane molasses contains about 24% to 36% sucrose and other sugars about 12% to 24%. Sugars contained in beet molasses are almost all sucrose, about 47%. In addition, it also contains 3% to 4% soluble colloids, mainly xylan, arabic gum and pectin.

The mineral content of molasses is high, about 8% to 10%, but the calcium and phosphorus content is not high, and the sugarcane molasses is higher than the beet molasses. The mineral elements are high in potassium, chlorine, sodium and magnesium, so molasses has a mild laxative effect. The vitamin content of general molasses is low, but the pantothenic acid content in sugarcane molasses is high, reaching 37mg/kg, and the biotin content is also considerable.

For people who like to eat sweets, the temptation of sugar is very strong, but it should be noted that if you eat too much sugar, it is not good for your health, especially for your teeth. Eating too much sugar will cause tooth decay and may also cause obesity. In addition, if you have diabetes, you must not eat sugary foods, otherwise it will aggravate your condition.
