What is nicotine

We often see on cigarette boxes that smoking is harmful to health, but this cannot control the impact on the majority of smokers, so the most important thing is to instill in us the consequences of cigarettes in our daily lives. We know that cigarettes contain nicotine, which is a relatively common substance. Without this substance, cigarettes will lose their original flavor. Therefore, it is wisest for us to avoid smoking as much as possible in our daily life.

Smokers who are addicted to smoking should have a correct understanding of the harm of nicotine, which will help them control their addiction. Nicotine originally came from the scientific name of the tobacco plant and was mainly introduced from foreign countries. Therefore, only by understanding these substances can we stay away from cigarettes.

The name nicotine comes from the scientific name of the tobacco plant, Nicotiana tabacum, which was named after Jean Nicot de Villemain, a Frenchman stationed in Portugal. In 1560, he sent tobacco seeds from Brazil back to Paris and promoted them for medical purposes. In 1828, German chemists Posselt and Reimann separated nicotine from tobacco for the first time. In 1843, Melsens proposed the chemical formula of nicotine. Adolf Pinner discovered the structure of nicotine in 1893. In 1904, A. Pictet and Crepieux successfully obtained nicotine by synthesis.

Nicotine is an oily liquid substance that is soluble in water, ethanol, chloroform, ether, and oils. Nicotine can penetrate the skin. The ignition point of nicotine in its free radical state is lower than its boiling point. When the vapor pressure in the air is low, its gas will burn at 308K (35 °C; 95 °F). For this reason, most of the nicotine is produced when the product is lit, but the amount inhaled is sufficient to produce the desired effect.

Nicotine is an unpleasant-smelling, bitter, colorless and transparent oily liquid. It is highly volatile and easily oxidized into dark gray in the air. It can quickly dissolve in water and alcohol and is easily absorbed by the body through the oral, nasal and bronchial mucosa. Nicotine that sticks to the surface of the skin can also be absorbed and penetrate into the body. When nicotine enters the human body, it will produce many effects: such as

Vascular constriction, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, faster breathing, changes in mental state (such as becoming emotionally stable or mentally excited), and promotion of platelet aggregation are the main accomplices in causing cardiovascular diseases such as heart vessel obstruction, hypertension, and stroke.

Through this article, we can learn in detail about the harm of nicotine. In our daily life, we should try our best to avoid contact with substances such as tobacco. Such substances can poison a strong cow, which shows its power. So we should stay away from nicotine in our daily life.
