How to check for ovarian tumors

How to check for ovarian tumors

Ovarian tumors can be diagnosed through imaging examinations, laboratory tests and surgical evaluation. Commonly used methods include ultrasound examinations, tumor marker testing, and imaging methods such as CT or MRI. The specific examination should be decided by the doctor based on individual circumstances.

1. Imaging examination

-Pelvic ultrasound: This is the preferred method for examining ovarian tumors, especially transvaginal ultrasound, which can clearly observe the size and shape of the ovaries and the internal structure of the tumor, and is used to determine whether the tumor is benign or malignant.

-CT or MRI examination: CT can provide more accurate information about the size and location of the tumor and the invasion of surrounding organs, while MRI is more suitable for observing changes in the soft tissue structure inside the tumor. Both examinations can help further clarify the nature of the tumor.

2. Laboratory testing

-Tumor marker detection: CA125 in the blood is a common ovarian cancer marker, especially for the monitoring of ovarian epithelial tumors. It has a high sensitivity, and the normal range is usually below 35U/mL. However, its specificity is low and needs to be combined with other indicators.

-Other indicators: If ultrasound suggests possible ovarian cancer, the doctor may also test other related markers such as HE4 (human epididymal secretory protein) and use the ROMA score (ovarian cancer risk assessment index) to assess cancer risk.

3. Surgical evaluation and pathological examination

-Laparoscopic examination: For ovarian tumors with a high possibility of malignancy, laparoscopic exploration can be performed under general anesthesia to visually observe the specific pathological conditions of the ovaries. At the same time, a pathological biopsy can be taken to confirm the diagnosis.

- Histopathological examination: The suspicious tissue is removed and sent to the pathology department for microscopic examination, which is the "gold standard" for confirming the nature of ovarian tumors.

4. Daily advice and timing of medical treatment

If you find abnormally enlarged ovaries, abdominal distension, back pain, abnormal menstruation or digestive problems during physical examinations or daily life, you should go to a professional medical institution for gynecology consultation in time. Especially women with a family history of cancer or those with hereditary diseases need to regularly screen their ovarian health to avoid delaying the disease to the late stage.

Early detection and timely diagnosis of ovarian tumors are the key to improving the cure rate. It is recommended to have regular health checks, follow the doctor's advice for further professional examinations when necessary, and actively manage your health with scientific methods.
