Will liver cancer recur?

Liver cancer is the most common malignant tumor in clinical practice. Since liver cancer has no obvious symptoms in the early stages of development, many patients miss the opportunity for treatment, which affects the treatment effect. Because of this, people have formed a wrong idea that liver cancer is equivalent to a death sentence, causing those diseases that can be cured to give up treatment due to lack of confidence.

Will liver cancer recur?

Currently, the most effective treatment for liver cancer is surgery, but for most patients who undergo liver resection, about 60-70% of patients will relapse within 5 years, so the treatment effect of liver cancer is not ideal. It is recommended to select high-risk patients with poor prognosis before surgery to avoid recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Surgical decisions and prognostic assessment are mainly based on the tumor staging system. Hepatocellular carcinoma has multiple phenotypes and molecular diversity, which must be identified before surgery. Early diagnosis and detection are crucial to avoid affecting the surgical process.

Misunderstandings about Liver Cancer

1. Recurrent liver cancer cannot be treated surgically: Although liver cancer can recur after surgery, as long as it is treated scientifically, it can still have a good therapeutic effect and effectively improve the long-term survival rate after liver cancer treatment.

2. Giant liver cancer cannot be surgically removed: Whether liver cancer can be removed should be determined based on the local condition of the tumor, liver function and the patient's basic condition, rather than the size of the tumor.

3. The treatment of liver cancer can only rely on surgery: As we all know, surgery has certain risks, but with the improvement of medical methods, from original surgical treatment to multidisciplinary treatment, such as: catheter arterial chemoembolization, tumor injection of ethanol, radiotherapy, molecular targeted therapy, etc., patients can choose the appropriate treatment method according to the actual situation.

4. Metastatic liver cancer cannot be treated surgically: Many people believe that once liver cancer occurs, it means that the patient has reached the advanced stage and has lost the possibility of surgical treatment. But in fact, this statement is wrong. With the development of medicine, the treatment strategy of liver metastasis has undergone revolutionary changes.
