How long can a person with small cell lung cancer live

Small cell lung cancer is a relatively common cancer in medicine. It is also divided into different stages. The survival time needs to be judged according to the severity of the disease. Small cell lung cancer is a malignant cancer of the human body. This disease is more harmful to the human body and deteriorates faster, so it needs to be treated as soon as possible.

Survival time for small cell lung cancer is determined by stage:

1. Limited survival time: The median survival time of 50% of patients is 12-20 months;

2. Extensive stage survival time: 8-12 months.

The survival of small cell lung cancer is related to the stage at the time of discovery. The median survival of patients with early detection, early diagnosis and standard treatment is 12-20 months. The survival of patients with advanced stage and distant metastasis is 8-12 months. The five-year survival rate of patients with limited stage is 17%-20%, and the five-year survival rate of patients with extensive stage is less than 2%.

How long a patient with small cell lung cancer can survive mainly depends on the stage of the small cell lung cancer when it is discovered. Usually, for peripheral small cell lung cancer, if it is in stage one or two, it can be treated surgically. Peripheral early lung cancer is treated with surgery plus comprehensive treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Some patients can also recover from small cell lung cancer through this early surgery and comprehensive treatment. Of course, for most patients, the disease may have entered the middle and late stages when it is discovered, and they have lost the opportunity for surgery. A small number of patients may still have the opportunity for targeted treatment, and patients can usually survive 1 to 3 years.

Small cell lung cancer is a malignant tumor of the lungs. It is highly malignant and invasive. It may metastasize to distant organs very early and has neuroendocrine characteristics. However, this malignant tumor is relatively responsive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
